Title: Rough running and engine light
Post by: Neil (Cardiff) on 22 November 2009, 00:12:16
Sorry, a bit of a recap but I have a 2.5 V6 and reasonably often the engine light comes on and the car runs very rough at tickover and sometimes stalls. Then it goes off and it runs fine and comes back on and so on. I've done the paperclip test and got code 73 - MAF. It only usually happens with a warm engine. If its stone cold the light stays off.

Anyway I've bought a MAF off a fellow member (thank you!) and I'm going to clean the breathers and ICV but as this is the first time I've ever even lifted a bonnet of an Omega is there any advice anyone can give or maybe something to do while I've got things apart which will help?

Also - do you think I'm taking the right course of action?

Thanks

Hello Neil,

Yes, I think you're doing the right thing, but.. There's always a but; have you checked the connectors for the MAF? See if there's any oxidation on the contacts or loose/wide pins. I've had the same problem on my Vectra.
I'm not sure about what you mean by "tickover" though (hehe, I'm a norwegian).

Anyway, I'd check the connectors on the MAF first and then tried another one.

Agreed you're going down the right track - clean MAF contacts 1st, if no go change MAF sensor.  Also clean ICV (may take a few gos!) and breathers.
