With all the rain over the last week today I noticed with the heater fan switched on there's a strange noise comming from behind the passenger footwell that sounds like boiling water and then goes when the fan is switched off. :-?

Souds like ghe heater box has water in it. There is a plug inside the box on the right hand side, just push it out annd the box will empty its self when you go round a corner. :y

Don,t push anything solid through the bottom to drain it, as the wiring loom hole is used as a drain, could damagr the cables.
Just pop the plug!! :y

The wiring looms are seperate and a little higher up from the bottom, the drain is actually on the bottom of the pollen filter housing. You should just about be able to get your arm in, I can .... just ..... just grit your teeth as it cuts & grazes your arm - it's a tight squeeze ;D ;D ;D

You need small hands, the plug can be popped from under the wing, but better to be done from inside the box as you wont have a plug floating inside box. You need small hands, get the wife to do it. It could be cold in the morning! :y

unlikely...given this is after rain.....but heater matrix can 'burble' if airlocked.....in which case get the car hot with no header tank cap on, heaters on full and burp pipes...

Mine appears to have this 'burbling' sometimes almost sounds as if there is something breathing from the footwell.
Burp the pipes how? Please :)

Remove the cap from the header tank start the engine and allow to warm up, once the pipes start to feel warm as the thermostat opens firmly squeeze then release the really large water pipe, as you do this you will see the level in the header tank rise and fall, you may also see large airbubbles as you "burp" the air out of the system. Do this squeeze and release 20 or 30 times, a short hard squeeze and a gentle release seems to work best.
HTH :)

welung666 just did mine and removed the compost heap from the drain hole, but he has tiny hands compared to my sausage fingers-washed it through with a hose-now fine.

Be careful when do put hose in well I managed to fill insise of car with water by being over generous with the hose
