I have a face lift 3.0 which I love to death having moved up from a 98 2.5
What's REALLY bugging me is the constant deep drone that is coming from the back box. I suspect its a el cheapo non GM box.
If I was 20 years old, I'd love it...but I ain't. At 46 I don't want to drive around sounding like a Chav..no matter how meaty it sounds.
So....my question for those with a 3 litre and anyone in the know.
Does a genuine GM box sound as loud ?
At the wrong revs mine sounds like I've got a huge boom box sitting back there.
It's bugging me SO much, I'd even consider chucking it away and having a genuine Vauxhall one fitted even though it doesn't need changing.
Equally, if it sounds like it does, is it going to effect performance also. ?

i get the same from mother tunnies 3.0, my 2.2 is silent in comparison (GM system on mine)
I was lucky, i got mine just before Vx quality dipped. Sadly GM ones are no longer double walled, so they offer nothing more than cheapo systems.
Few members have Eternal systems fitted, £120 cat back for V6. They seam happy, still not as good as old style GM, but its about as close as you will get :'(

OOOOO Bugger !

Just for info I've replaced the cat back system on my 2.2 with a walkers centre and GM rear box. The GM box is fine but the walker centres drone so will be replacing with GM after winter. In the name of research I took a hacksaw to the original rear box and it's not double walled. I've had the car since 4 mths old so I know it was the original and it lasted almost 7 years. In fact it was the ends of the centres that failed first, the back box might have done another year.
So inmho I'd say go GM.
EDIT. Think you can get the GM parts on Trade Card, not sure of discount though.
-
Interesting story...thank you.
I'd defo change to a GM box IF I knew it would be quieter than the cheapo one I've got on there now...
thats the basis of my question really to be honest.

The eternalcar exhaust I fitted is pretty close in sound to the original VX exhaust fitted from new, I used to have a 3.0 which was fitted with a cheap exhaust from the UK and it sounded terrible
-
Listing on ebay for a twin chrome tail piped steinmetz rear box....probaby be a lot etter quality than the current GM offerings even if it is not new.
-
Don't think that will fit a facelift...
NOT sure etenal do a rear box for the Omega C either.

Whats that then? :-? - No such thing exists.
Eternal list 3.0 systems, but they fit the 3.2's no problem :y

If you go to eternals website they list exhausts for the Omega B.

Are you saying that the back box they list for the Omega B will fit facelifts also...
Do all Omega B exhaust sections fit the facelift ?

The facelift IS an Omega B.
They all are interchangable 4pot / v6 systems different as are saloon to estate.

Huh....
I'm well confused.
I just got rid of a 98 2.5 CD...i was under the impression that was a B...the A being OUR old Carlton.
If you do a Google search...under OMEGA C, my car comes up at the top, go to images and there again is the facelift Omega..C..
Again type Omega B in to Google and you'll get the pre facelift...With respect..i think you're wrong.
Certainly the internet and everything I've understood would suggest you are.
Please clarify.

I have seem 'Omega C' used as shorthand for the facelift. I don't know if it was ever an official designation.
I couldn't find any exhaust systems on eternalcars website for Omegas dated after the switch :-/

Does a genuine GM box sound as loud ?
I've had a 2.5 V6 CDX Estate, and a 3.0 MV6
Neither of them "droned" as such, although the 3.0 did make it slightly more apparent (only when i floored it) in the exhaust note that it was a 3 litre V6.
It certainly didn't qualify as chav style IMO, it was just that nice V6 rumble.

Omega A - Carlton
Omega B - 1994 - 2003
There WAS NEVER an Omega C in UK market, number of people incorrectly refer to it as C.
It was just a heavily facelifted version of the B, remember the facelift is basically exactly the same car, its not a new model, so did not get a new letter.
Look at the Astra G, that got little facelifts along the way, did not get a new letter until an all new version came out.
Check any decent Vx parts company, you won't find any reference to Omega C.
Have a read of this....

Super duper. So any spare part, listed as an Omega B will fit a 2000-2003 facelift model. Is that correct. ?
In which case I'm gonna be looking for a quieter rear box for my 3.0 Elite. The neighbours 18 year old heard me start up and drive off the other day, thinking it was his mates scooby..THATS how bad it is ??

No.
Not all parts, remember they are different shapes, so some body panels are not the same, interior parts, some engine parts, ect. Its all on an individual basis.
But for exhausts, 3.0 ones are all the same.

Mine's very throaty but I have got a Vx Sports back box :-X :-X
-
Exhaust is what I'm after fortunately.
Yes ! Mine is very throaty also...but i think its down to a cheap crappy box....not a sports box....BUT there again, NOTHING would surprise me.
I just don't like it too much....I know i now have a bigger engine with much HP but for me its just too noisy...Etenal sell cheap boxes but they appear to have a good name, especially given that the suggestion is that they are almost as good as the originals which surely can't be as noisy as what I've got now ??

My 2.6 purrs like a kitten, my old 3.0 sounds like a tank, that has a totally different exhaust that cost the same but looks nothing like the original vx one, I was very worried as I said the 2.6 would sound like the 3.0, but the eternalcar exhaust was a pleasant surprise, I can guarantee you will be pleased with the sound, and the price, best £140 I ever spent

Thank you Boracic...Guess thats the direction i'll be headin' then.
