Having only had my V6 just over 5 weeks I'm seeking some advice as regards to the diagnostics I recently had at my local garage.
My engine management light started to come on and then go off again, sometimes it'd stay on for a few seconds and the longest it stayed on for was about 30 mins. This had been happening on both motorway and town driving so after a quick natter with my mechanic (a reliable friend) he said it'd more than likely be the EGR (common fault apparently).
Had a look and noticed the wire from the EGR had been, was being chaffed by the auxilary belt (how it got there I don't know) anyway the wire seemed virtually intact apart from the plastic being worn away so I taped over the exposed wire and secured it away from the belt.
After that the engine management light stayed on permanently so back to the garage for the computer diagnostics.
I saw the diagnosis myself which was fault Knock sensor 1 and Knock sensor 2,nothing to do with the EGR!!???
My mechanic re did the test to be sure, the exact same result.Diagnostics only cost me £10 and I was given free detailed advice on how to clean the sensors where they're attached.
Before I do this work has anyone had a similar problem or any advice would be much appreciated.

Had this problem on mine and got the same advice. Some previous pratt had routed the Right Knock Sensor wire incorrectly and it was chafing the Aux belt. Fact was it has cut it almost in two and I was told that it would cost 25+ just for a new knock sensor! b***s to that I thought and duly repaired it by soldering and heat shrinking the broken wires then re-routing it. Its gave me no bother since then so it may be a help to you. The wire is a bit like a coax ariel cable with an inner and outer.
Regards and good luck

Cheers mate, the wire I taped over must be more damaged than I thought. Now I know its like coax I can repair it properly.Good man :y

But why a fault on 1 and 2......has no 2 sensor wire been trapped or damaged as well (seen the trapped under the cam cover gaskets).
Yes, repair is easy.
EGR.....what is that mechanic on.....I must have seen hundreds of Omegas and have yet to see 1 with an EGR valve stuck on a V6 and have only heard of one on the forum in about 3 years!. I sudgest you take his comments with a pinch of salt

The wire I repaired was coming from the top of the EGR and was being chaffed by the Aux belt.I only checked after mechanic mentioned EGR,anyway thats obviously not the problem as the computer readout came up with knock sensors 1 + 2. I would have thought 1 might go but 2 !!!
The advice I was given was to clean each sensor and mating surfaces and reattach to between 8 + 15nm.
My first V6 so I'm at the start of the learning curve.I replaced the crank sensor on my 2.0 mig no probs I'm just hoping its not something more sinister!!!
I'll have a good look 2 moz but looking like weekend before I'll be doing work (weekends are my time) cheers :y
