Coming from the steering column loom I, like us all, have a huge bunch of wires, ending at three large connectors.
2 of them obviously go in to the radio...no problem, but in my case I'm left with a large grey one that doesn't seem to connect to anything.
That said, I have NO control of the GID display whatsoever. It works but I can't set or change ANYTHING on it and am assuming that the "empty going no where" grey plug is something to do with this.
So...my question simply is: What is the grey connector, what should be plugged in to it and where should said plug eventually lead too and for what reason.
Heck knows what the tosspots that had my car before me did ?

can you post us a picture?
There are connectors for the ignition switch, stalks and immobilser on the column. But the immobiliser one is a very small connector & the others lay right next to where they plug in.

do the headlights and dimmer work - the connector for that is a grey one

I don't think I am looking at the same plugs as you.
The radio plug is in 3 distinct blocks.
Starting at the bottom there is
1 - an 8 pin block for power
2 - an 8 pin block for the speakers (or BOSE in my case)
3 - a 20 pin block for telephone & MID
I assume that the cars with sat nav & GID use a lot more pins in the 20 pin block than my CCR2006 does.

Andy...you're a star ! GREAT picture !
Yes ! I have the 20 block in grey.....currently with sod all plugged in to it....and spookliy my GID controls, assuming they run off the right hand stork, do not work.
I MIGHT be getting somewhere....SO what should be plugged into the 20 Blue/Grey block and where does "what should be plugged in it" ....ermmm go.
I wonder IF the tosspots unplugged the other end and tucked it up out of the way somewhere for some stupid reason.
Any ideas ??

I think the GID and CID only work with NCDC sat-nav units.
I think I have read that the steering wheel controls are used to control NCDC units not the stalk :-/

Which of these displays do you have? http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1153215783

I am 99.9% sure its the last one.
I love to take advice BUT I also am the sort of character that needs to "understand."
Its all coming together now.
Theboy explained a large part of this a while ago to me, so to both of you i'm very gratefull.
I have ACTUALLY got a built in unit that illegedly came out of my car as it was sat in the boot when i purchased the car and a Kenwood plonked in it's place.. BUT...here's something. The Unit was Radio/Tape player which i can't imagine came with the car when new.
I reckon some bugger nicked the cars original RADIO/CD player and "swapped" it for the crappy Radio/Tape player version....only to find it muffed up the display/Sat Nav etc etc..

Me too :y
Searching for 'GID' brought up this for sale thread http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1255346576/0
Assuming that the bits advertised were all working before the car was broken it looks like the CCRT700 (which I assume is a tape unit) should work.
What is the number on the unit in the boot?

.......
Why? Your car's all but 10 yrs old, people still used tapes back then, my car (a year older and the preface lift) has a tape/radio HU & the CD's in the boot .....

How can't you be 100% sure? :-? :-? ;)

I had a 2000 Vectra SRi and she came with a Cd/Radio.
My Elite is a higher spec car so I assumed it would also have a radio/cd player...thats all....but good point.
All thats left at the back of the unit was a Philips Tape deck.
I'm really happy with the Sony Xplod, it has radio/cd USB, IPOD etc and bluetooth which I need for work.
In cold weather such as this week my display keeps flashing "Attention ICE" all the time with the option to select "OK" to acknowledge the warning BUT I can't reset it.....it goes automatically when it judges its no longer a danger.
