Title: Is resume always in such a rush?
Post by: Boatboy on 02 December 2009, 23:45:32
My car did not come with cruise, but thanks to a member and tips on here I fitted one.

Everything works fine and has done for 6 months, except for one niggle. When I press resume, even if I have only slowed a little such as waiting to change lane on the motorway, the cruise wants to get me back to speed as fast as possible. Not only is this disconcerting but quite often it's impractical, not to mention the fuel cost, 'kick-down' and making me look like a muppet.

Is there anything can be done or do I forget resume, uncross my legs and set my speed again manually?

wonder if the gearbox update might help.
Mine is not as bad, but resume from 50 back to 80 odd and it will kick down, which i try to avoid, not really "cruising" at 6k.

In answer to your question.... Yes, it is quite aggressive. As Chris said, I generally try and get closer to speed with my right foot and then hit resume :y :y

It's fun hitting the resume button half way round a wet roundabout - about 90 degrees before where you want to exit seems optimal.  :D

As Lazydocker says, use your right foot to get to where you want to be speed wise and then press set.

Only available via Tech2 ... stealers or one of the guys on here  :0

I think version 9 is the latest, had mine done at one of the "meets" by TB ... made a big difference especially when towing .. everything much smoother now, although "resume" is still "interesting"

:)

I thought my Omega, even before the gearbox upgrade, was tame compared with my Senator! The Senator just had to get you back to where you were at any cost and booted it!!!  :-?  ;)  ;)

Had my cruise enabled at Vaux via Tech2 and technician (?) said he'd also updated software. Resume still causes car to kickdown even with 10mph difference... Better as already said to use right foot to match speed then activate cruise. strange that my 1985 Toyota Supra with 4spd auto knew that if resuming cruise you were "cruising" so built up speed gently :-?

i dont suffer with this problem unless the speed difference is 20mph or more. ive had 7 omegas and only the 2.0 cd had the symptons you descibe

Thanks all for the replies. Looks like I'm not special after all. Based on the responses it seems the update might be worth having when near a tech 2, but not worth going out of my way for.

I've never actually checked to see at what difference in mph it really goes beserk, but we have a run up to Yorkshire this weekend so the wife might be in for some whiplash of the motoring kind in the name of research. Not that there is that many roundabouts left on the A1 anymore.

In the meantime I'll just enjoy the ultra smooth resume function on my daytime ride. 16-86kmh through 8 gears and barely a whisper or shudder to disturb Ken Bruce.

LOL now see in my manual when i hit resume its nice and controlled acceration back up to the preset speed no worries!! purely cos the manual is still in fifth gear
the stupid sludgepump isnt intelligent enough to realise it will get there without kicking down  :y

same here! I usually set the cruise at 80, get stuck behind a pair of truckers overtaking each other at 0.0000001 mph, once they have gone, hit resume, still in 5th at 60, nice smooth pull up to 80, because it can't change gear its a nice smooth increase in speed
