Title: Poor starting and idle 2.2 petrol /LPG
Post by: richard on 30 November 2009, 15:38:42
Gents and Gals

Bit of background.
2.2 petrol /lpg  2003 had it 3 years  bought at 70000 now 109000.
Runs a dream on lpg but has to start on petrol.
When starts from cold it ticks over at about 1200 rpm but very lumpy, if you touch the gas it normally dies.
With a lot of TLC I can make it run long enough for the gas to kick in then all ok.
My deductions are that as its ok on lpg then the ignition system must be ok as must the idle control valve.
If i switch to petrol when on the move it splutters a bit a low revs and feels like i am towing a tank.
The petrol itself is newish it had a new cam sensor a while ago and a new dis pack.

When it runs on petrol it feels like the ignition timing is out.

Any help gratefully accepted and will answer any questions. :y

Hi Richard, you need to get the codes read as it could be 2 or 3 different things causing this. Where abouts are you?

Mine used to run like that on occasion, after changing the MAF and the CAT, it runs like a new car

I must say that was one of my first thoughts.

It it runs OK on LPG my thoughts are that either the petrol system isn't 100% (clogged injectors or fuel filter, pump, etc) or that the LPG system isn't accurately set up so it has caused a large fuel trim to build up, which then gives problems when run on petrol.

If you can get over to Hampshire I would be happy to put the Tech 2 on it and see what's going on.

Do you know what type of LPG ECU is fitted? Just thinking if it needs adjustment the software + cable will be required.

Hi Kevin

I would love someone who knows what they are doing to have a look at it.

I can get about with a bit of planning as I work from home and can be flexible.
Anytime to suit you really.

Let me know
