Title: Running temperature 2.6
Post by: zirax on 06 December 2009, 20:41:58
Hi all,

I have had my eye on the running temp of my Omega for a few weeks. What is the correct running temp of the 2.6 engines? Reason I ask is I have noticed that on a steady run at ~70 for 100 or so miles the temperature sits just above the second notch. My meaning is
1st notch = 0c
2nd notch = mid point
3rd notch = 80c

I have no issues like increased fuel use or bad heating. If you put your foot down for a few mins then it will hit 80c, likewise in traffic the fans cut in as normal at around 90-95c. Just wondering if this is something that I should look at? Bearing in mind it only settles at this point when doing 70-75 for about 100-150 miles on the motorway just ticking over with no accelerating (travel late at night).

First mark is at 70 degC.

When I bought my 2.6 the thermostat was faulty and it behaved just as you described.

I put a new thermostat in and it now goes rapidly up to 85 deg C and stays there or there abouts.

In normal running it should stay between 80 and 90 deg C.

Aha! Thanks, I thought it was running cool but I had no other symptoms fuel, poor heating etc. Sounds like it is opening a bit early then.
