Title: Fault on Fuel trim?

Hi my mv6 is showing a malfunction on fuel trim bank 1 and 2. Does anybody know what this is. I am trying to avoid main dealer.

What codes are you getting? P0420 and P0430 by any chance?

Easiest fix it to move the front lambda sensors back behind the cats, have a look here.....

I get those warnings twice a year ... about 1/2 way into my French Holiday .. and 3 weeks after getting back ... then they just don't recur ....

IMHO it must have something to do with changing fuel, now as I run on LPG, and LPG as sold is a mixture of propane & butane .... I think the mixes in the two countries are different and the sensors pick the "change" in composition of the exhaust gases up as a failure.. once it is settled on to one or other it runs quite happily.

I'm wondering if small changes to fuel composition to those running petrol has the same effect ????

P0430 and P0420 aren't fuel trim but catalytic converter efficiency, and they are indeed common and not much to worry about.

Fuel trim (P017x IIRC), on the other hand, do indicate a fuel mixture or metering problem, and should be investigated.

Hi it came on after a trip to leeds from Formby. I have cleared the fault and it hasn't come back on again. There is no running problems and after some fuel cleaner it seams ok. I had run the tank very low before I went if it could be some crap from the tank.
