Title: Water pump seal
Post by: Amego52 on 09 December 2009, 11:35:14
Morning all, is it possible to blow a water pump seal when the engine on a 98 V6 starts to overheat due to lack of coolant. I'm pretty sure no other damage has been done regards to head gaskets....

Cheers.

you can melt the alloy and rubber seals.

I have just taken the pully off the water pump to have a look in and it looks like the leak is from there and not above as in the thermostat area. I am guessing it is the seal purely from the amount of water thats leaking which is a small size flow. Could it be something more sinister as I dont really want to waste my time with it otherwise :(

I don't think it would get hot enough to melt alloy.

I would replace the water pump just incase.
