The aux belt on my 2.2 is looking cracked. Sorry to be thick but which pulley releases the tension and what's the procedure for refitting and the correct torque.
Thanks in advance.

right hand side of the engine, spring loaded 15mm tensioner.
15mm spanner on it to release, just wip the old belt off. Take note of the way its routed before taking it off, put the replacement on in the same way, look everything but the tensioner, then put the 15mm spanner back on, release the tension and pop the belt on.
No torque needed....

That's great tunnie. Thank you once again :y
btw. Your superb guide for camcover gasket change made the job seem easy, even for me, and enjoyable. Nice one :y :y :y

Cheers, i am a huge fan of detailed photos each step of the way, it makes it look so much easier and more managable. Somehow just text makes it look scary.
Would you belive when i joined OOF i could not even do an oil change :o

should add the tensioner does not come off at-all, its just spring loaded up and down. :y
-
:-[ Managed to get old belt off ok although I don't think I took the right 15mm bolt out... ::) So I've now got the tensioner pulley in my hand... The tensioner doesn't seem to move.. either that or it's very stiff. Should I have taken out the bolt above the tensioner, that looka like the mounting bolt? Did manage to successfully replace the camshaft sensor along the way though... ;D

:D worked it out. Job done! :y

Ah :-[
Its not supposed to come off, its just spring loaded, unless you are changing the whole tensioner. In that case make sure its torqued up right as its come off, have you got the haynes book of 'dangle berries'?

just come back in. Been putting everything back together. I don't have the Haynes manual so i'm not sure of the torque for the tension pulley. Obviously when I tighten it up as much as I can the tensioner moves at the same time. Belts on fine though. Thanks for your assistance though, if I hadn't rushed off in search of a spanner I would have got your last post about not removing the whole thing.. ;D ;D
It's all a learning experience...

Is that true Tunnie or are you just being modest? If it is true, all I can say is you've learnt a hell of a lot and done a great job of passing on your accumulated knowledge! ;D ;D :y :y ;)

Its true, in the maint guide section there is one of doing an oil change on the 2.2, that was my first ever work on a car.

Yes. Used that guide too. :y Only wish I bought an oil filter wrench as mine was on so tight I crushed it getting it off. >:(
I managed to get the aux belt tensioner sorted out, just hope I got the pulley back on the right way round :-/ Tried to tighten up as much as possible but I'm still not sure of the correct torque. Bit tricky as the whole thing keeps moving.

Course not, got mother tunnie for those complicated cooking devices :)
Unless it has a number to ring to enable cooking, i don't bother ;D
