Hi folks,
There is an increasingly loud metallic ticking sound coming from the mid/bottom of the engine. Its not that noticeable on startup but gets progressively louder as the engine warms up. Its not the tappets as I cleaned and replaced them, and I did a compression test and it doesn't seem to be the piston rings either (also the ticking is too low frequency for that). Any ideas? :-?

pop off the aux belt and start the engine (do NOT run it for more than a few seconds) because the aux belt drives the waterpump.
With the aux belt off, see if it makes the same noise

And replace it immediately if it is the waterpump, cause mine broke in one day like that

I just replaced the aux belt a few months ago and while it was of I span the water pump and checked it for play and leaks etc.. and it seemed fine. Mind you I had drained the coolant before hand. Would that make any difference?
I was thinking it might be the oil pump, as that would explain why it gets louder when warm?

You should have replaced it when changing the aux belt
