Apparently it's not the idler arm (the common failure) it appears to be part 14 that isn't known to wear.... :-X

he said it, even showed me he said that they wear out from rubbing left and right and it has not done to bad as the idler was the original one from new, can see the rings on it when he tuck off the idler and showed me. said when you get a new idler should get the kit come with every thing.

Thought on an MOT they were not allowed to dismantle anything :o :-/

?? not psychic - you didn't say that in your post

He is correct - the MOT tester is not allowed to dismantle anything.
Its part number 14 on the pic but to be truthful I have never known one to wear. For that part to wear there must be something else very amiss in your steering linkage. The Idler itself that locates on it is a common wear problem though. Changed it on mine the first time at 152000 miles. The clone I fitted first to save money lasted 7600!
Why not just buy a new genuine VX Drop Arm Idler, fit it and then try it for movement? Do not buy an aftermarket clone that WILL fail rapidly and leave you back at square one like I did the first time.
Do it yourself, its really easy (takes about 30 mins) and I think you will find that it solves your problem.

it is a genuine idler, it is the top part of the shaft on 14 gone worn out the shaft as it has had the original ldler on for 14 years nearly 15 years in feb 2010, its had its time.
