just wondering does anyone know if the 2.5td auto box is the same as in the petrol models.

Yes, the 2.5 TD had the AR25 automatic gearbox which was also fitted in the petrol models with the exception of the 3.0 / 3.2 which had the stronger AR35.

You will need to change the bellhousing and torque converter to fit a box from a petrol car, though.

The AR25 is a bit weak for the 2.5 TD, certainly if it's chipped, so an AR35 would be a better bet IMHO.

ar25 is bit weak for td anyway, chipped or not ::)
