Title: Secondary air injection?
Post by: Bionic on 24 December 2009, 00:42:02
Bit of a puzzler! How can I test the secondary air injection system?
How can I test the secondary air injection pump under the ns front wing to find out if the pump is working?
Looked in my TIS but cannot see it.

If its working, properly, you wont hear it!

If you hear it and it sounds like a 747 on its takeoff run, its already broken and needs unplugged.

If its already unplugged, its already broken!

Happy days!

Bottom line - its not worth bothering about.  If its problematic, unplug it and forget about it....   ;)

Take off the rubber pipe on the pump side of the flap valve.  Start the engine from cold.

If the pump's working you'll get a lot of air piling out of the end of the hose, if it isn't, you won't.

Huh?
Sorry JamesV6-CDX but the way I run a motor is that if it is fitted then it should work and all parts used are the genuine article. Had too many problems with crap bits before.
Gave me a laugh though cos it is getting on my t**ts a bit now cos its too cold to do anything.

You don't need SAI, all it does it help emissions on the first few seconds on start up, its not something to fix. Unplug and forget

Ok, If I get a look at it and it is working as it should I will keep it on. If its a problem I shall bow to those who have given good advice previously and let it die.
Cheers!

Strangely enough mine is completely quiet and after looking at it last night cos I got bored I found it to be working as it should.
As it should be there I will leave it alone until it needs attention. Looks like my concern was for nothing brought about by someones elses paranoia.
I will stick to my usual motto of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. Its always worked well enough for me in the past and after watching many of my m8t's constantly spending out on so called 'improvements and adjustments' I will keep my hard earned cash in my pocket. Looks like fiddling about when there is no solid reason to is an expensive and unproductive task to me.
Have great Xmas and a Greater new Year!
GudLuk all.

Yup - when working properly, you dont notice it.  As most of our cars are 9-15 years old (SAI not fitted to 2001 and later), a significant proportion of SAI pumps are knackered!
