Title: 2.5 td, Possible Water Pump Failure
Post by: Squealey on 29 December 2009, 21:36:41
Hi All

I have read somewhere that the water pump on the 2.5 td has a tendency to snap its plastic impellors in this cold weather.

if this should happen, what are the symptoms plus how big a job is it and should i just want to remove it to check it does it have a standard paper type gasket or an o ring type gasket?

Thanks lads and lasses

Wayne.

have to remove viscous if fitted, aux belt, then pump held in with 4 bolts

Fast overheating is what will happen if its lost its impellors.

Auto Addict and I changed that pump Feb 07

O ring

Thanks Jaime. Just going to need to rule everything out before i even want to think its the head gasket.

Took it about 2 miles earlier where it went straight up to 100 then blew most of its water out of the expansion tank. :'(

Once temp creeps over 95C, if left to idle, does it come back down again quickly, settling to 93/94C?

Don't know if any use to you, but got a good working TD pump here if needed. Removed from my facelift TD, are they the same as your model?

Yes, all TD pumps are same (for Vauxhalls - not sure about the Y25DT only fitted to later Opel Omegas)
