Have a very tiny crack in my windscreen nothing drastic but know in time it will spread, don't really need to get it done but i do like everything to be tip top so i called Autoglass for a quote on a new screen...... £340+vat !!!! am i having my pants pulled down here????

In a word YES! If you're fully comp then it'll cost you £50 excess if something 'accidentally' hits your windscreen, breaking it ;)
-
No screen cover on my insurance!!! :'(
-
either leave it till it is insured, or ring round the smaller places.
iirc you should be able to get it for about £150

I know it's not your part of the country, but can't you find a similar outfit near you.

AutoGlass quoted something stupid like that to replace the Screen on my MkIII Cavalier. Robbing Barstewards.
As advised, use something like Yell.com and search for small companies in your area.

Bloody hell ! thats dear.

They are having a giraffe!

as said, leave it until you have insurance ws cover. And or change insurance company. Your price is alot of money but is roughly half what auto glass charge an insurer i'm told. Maybe repairable? or replace.

They quoted me more than that about 6 months ago, mid 400s if I remember rightly. Luckily I found out my german insurance had not quite expired....... ;D

As said, find a small independent... Not only will it be £200 or less but you'll probably get a better job done too ::) ::) ::)

Why not try the breakers? You are bound to find one that is ok. If not you can buy a windscdreen repair kit that does actually work on small strikes and cracks. It is resin based and is cured by ultra violet light (I used van UV LED torch bought for 3 quid but a banknote checker does the same job) and all you do after is use a flat craft blade to plane the excess off, then a quick buff and job done. I have used it before but cannot remember where I got it, I know it wasn't that costly though. Try Halfords or a decent motor factors.
Next time don't be a tightass and get the screen covered! Let this be a lesson well learned.

Been thinking, if you can wait a few months I'll be breaking my silver miggy with a 6 month old windscreen in it.......
