I`m new with the new automatic heating system , and despite reading the owners manual from back to front , i just cannot understand what is gooing on .
driving out with the temp up hi and a warm engine it blows out luke warm air , and if you drop it down to 24degrees it blows hot air and the car gets lovley and warm .
when driving in cold conditions at speed and the air is 3 degress outside and is keping the v6 engine cold not getting to 90degrees , the warmth in the car struggles to get warm even on hi . And somtimes will not completley demist the top half of the windscreen , so driving in the dark can somtimes get a little worrying .
im not totally sure if im using it correctly or is there a fault with the system , i assume (hi) should be toasty hot , and ( Lo) will mean its cool and the aircon will take over . any help or ideas . :-? :-/ :-[

i should say dropping it down to 24 degrees dose not always work its was somthing i noticed today . But when trying it again tonight on the way home in the cold it would not get warm .

Not sure about pre facelift but mine has the eco button, have you got it on. In other words is the air con off. Even on mine last night steamed up inside if I just had it on eco mode, needed it on air con to help clear the glass.

I would check the water level and check for air locks, engine is supposed to auto bleed air locks as far as I know but allways worth checling. Very carefully feel the temp of the large top hose to the radiator as it should be hot and give it a few tight squeezes to pump it. (Be very very carefull of moving parts. Do this with the heating controls set to hot, not sure what setting for the vents would be best but I would set it to the screen 1st. Then repeatwith it set to the footwells. (Allthough if honest I think this is just various flaps forcing the heat in different directions)
Are you using the auto setting on the setting on the heating.
Has it got climate, have you reset the climate ecu? (Think you hold off and auto in for 5 seconds to rest the system.
Others will be along in the morning to confirm if what I have said is the right thing ( it is 4:30 am and am still a bit sleepy)

it has had a new head gasket and cam belt fitted not so long back do you think , the reasembling of the pipes connections to the engine may be causing a problem with this aswell , with pockets of air getting trapped . Im no mechanic its just a theory . ;)

Could well be an bit of air in the system.

the heater matrix could benefit from a flush....
2 pipes going into bulkhead with quick release locks...
take em both of and run a hose on both of them to flush both ways (i use an offcut of hose on the other to direct the water under the car. flush a few mins each way, improved my heat efficiency no end.
then just reconnect the clips (guide in maint section on how to do the clips)

Air/con on or off will make little difference to the fuel economy of a V6 ;). I just run mine in AUTO :y

Yup good advice, also if you leave it in ECO for too long, come the summer the aircon compressor will have dryed up and fail.

thanks guys alot of good advice here will give some of them a try , but i did try the reset proccess , and drove the cdx without the ECO button on , and i think its worked .
but i like the sound of giving it a flushing out and a bit of a service. I will take a trip to my local Vauxhall and see how much they are charging for a service , as volvo are charging £79 for any make . ;)

i think ive sussed it now ;D

i got no heat atall now . but trying to wait for a warmer day so that i can flush out the system . and replace it with new engine coolent . Dose anybody recommend any good stuff to use with the V6 , as i am thinking of using the top grade Halfords stuff. ;)

Go to Vauxhall dealer and use genuine :y :y :y

Please, don't. Its false economy, you may save a couple of quid on fuel, but your not running your air-con compressor. Run ECO for the whole winter, come summer when you press auto, that compressor is going to be dry of oil, and fail, and cost big bucks to replace....
Drive with Auto always on :)
As others have said, flush the heater matrix, that should help things. Also you mentioned the car struggled to get to temp (90?)
Regardless of outside conditions, be it -10 or +45, the car should run at the same temp. Which is the middle of the gauge, if the engine temp is not fully warming up, you most likey have a sticky thermostat
