Hi peoples
have checked my scuttle on drivers side and passenger side, stuck my hand down there and removed a tiny bit of gunk, mainly a few leaves...
also checked air filter and pollen filter, these are both clean and dust free
my car seems to mist up really badly, you get in it first thing and within 30 seconds, windscreen mists up, put heater on and it goes away (obviously) or i use air con to clear it quicker, then i turn it off and it mists up shortly after, sometimes you dont always want it on constantly! >:(
any ideas as to whats causing it too mist up badly?
its been like this since i bought the car pretty much
any cures?

Mine was exactly the same untill i changed the pollen/carbon filter even though it didnt look too bad ... :-/

oh ok mate, i will replace it tomorrow, do i need to change air filter also?

Has the car got a leak somewhere that you have not found yet ??

engine air filter has nothing to do with the cabin, change the pollen filter (they are only £6) - Also check the vent in the boot is free (right hand first aid compartment)

my first aid compartment is on the left hand side as you open the boot, that right? cant see any vents in there at all mate

Sorry just noticed you have an estate, there is a compartment on the right, think it holds CD changer, there is a vent in there i think

wouldent have really said an air vent in the boot would have much effect on the front windscreen anyway,as the boot is almost as good as sealed,but on the other hand,i could be wrong. :-/

will check in the morning, the CD changer is on the right that's right.... where are the vents?

when i cleared out the scuttle a few days ago, it seems i didn't do it as the maintenance guide states!
i simply cleared the sludge out, there wasn't much, mainly leaves...... maybe i need to go deeper and try and get out more of the crap, if there is any?

stick a hose in there, the water should flow straight out again

well the windscreen does mist up pretty fast, but also the side windows, as well as the rear windscreen.. so i have it pretty bad!
and people have been saying to me
"what's that musty smell in your car Wayne"
so, maybe there is more gunk on the passenger side scuttle area?
tomorrow i will actually take out the drivers side scuttle plug and clean that fully
i have also checked drivers and passengers side carpets for any wet patches, dry as a bone!

Explains why my rear screen and side windows have misted all this last week-the first aid compartment is stuffed full of tools etc for the long trip-must be blocking the vents.
Will clear this before the 1000-mile home trip starts in the morning.

Be careful not to overfill and fill the cabin with water-use cable to clear plug, rinse carefully when plug fully opened :y

Passenger side, scuttle flap, stick a hose in there, make sure it runs clear, it should not build up.

Tunnie-mine was bad enough to back up and go into cabin if I had done this-needed to open up the plug, remove handfulls of mulch and then when clear gently hose the rest through. If I had just gone at it with a hose, the water would have gone in through pollen filter housing and stuffed it :y

Not as bad as they sound.
Disconnecting my power sounder took ten mins. (Wiper puller from Machine Mart made things a lot easier.)
Cleaning the scuttle drains with a jet washer took seconds.
Replacing the pollen filter took 5 mins max. Air filter is a 5 minute job too.

Misting up is a common problem with Omega estates and regardless of what you do you will never really solve the problem just minimise it. Make sure your scuttle tray is clear,change your pollen filter and what may also help air circulate better is to leave the rear load cover open. Also using Anti mist products help and i would recommend putting this on your side and rear windows but not the front,reason being they tend to smear and can actually make the vision thru the front window worse, regardless of what i have tried these products do smear the glass.Use a good glass polish on the front glass as this will make a smoother surface and aid in demisting.
As i said before you will never really get rid of the problem.

One of the main problems with misting up on Omegas is the pollen filter can get damp at this time of the year.
The main reasons for this is, wrong pollen filter fitted, scuttle not cleaned out regularly, filter needs changing.
Even a new filter can be slightly damp, before fitting.
Before I fit a new filter, I always take it out of the box and keep it in the house overnight.

I think using the aircon occaisionally as you say will only make your problems worse. With aircon on the car clears quicker as the moisture in the air is held back by the evaporator. Turn it off and all that moisture (that has not yet dribbled to the outside world) is blown into the cabin.
Probably the cause of your (or should i say your cars) musty smell.

Be very careful about putting a hose in area behind pollen filter I did this and filled the inside of the car with water and since then the blower speed controller has failed

Right, didn't do Powersounder today, cleaned out scuttle drains both sides, the passenger side one was empty anyway, a bit of sticky gunk, but managed to get my hand down to the grommet part, no gunk in there thank god, pollen filter was pretty disgusting! lots of crap inbetween each of the filaments, i only changed it 6 months ago! air filter is still clean as the day i bought it, but then it is a K&N filter and cost me £30! you gets what you pays for i suppose
just put new pollen filter in and already the car smells fresher inside, also squirted all interior glass with HOLTS Anti-Mist spray.. will see how i get on with all this

So instead of using the air intake system that took £100,000's to create a bespoke system for that engine, scooping in nice cold air from underneath the car, you stuck a K&N on which sucks in warm air from inside the bay? Thus reducing power, and mpg?

Chap did not say he bought a cone filter, simply that he has a K&N fitted. They also do panel filters (got one in my garage) which still utilises the original ducting and cold air etc.... ;)
Potential problem, as you are aware, is that the oils used may well cause some havock with the MAF as it is a bit insensitive to oils on the filament.
As to misting up, keeping the inside of the car dry as well as keeping the air into the car dry, hence the pollen filter change, is the key.... :y

ang on, is this why my Temperature gauge always go pretty damn hot?
its a normal K&N panel filter, you reckon i should replace it with a bog standard one then?
it simply fits on top of the air filter housing like a normal one would, exactly the same size and everything

sits between 90 and 100, always seems hot to me
normally happens when sitting in traffic or just round town etc
bloody engine always seems RED hot, also just noticed my coolant level has dropped an inch or so, already had the HBV changed 1 month ago
hope it aint the friggin suspected HG problem again!

95 is normal for V6, should rise to 96/97 in town, fans kick in, and should drop back to 95

oh good, thats great news, i have always been worried about high the temp gauge reads....phew!
its has gone to 100 before, and fans kick in and knock it down to just below 95

should never go past 100, for the cost (£10 ish) GM filters are fine, mines been in 2 years and due a change, but still looks fine

I tend to stick to GM filters - they have much larger surface area than patterns.

well, had no problem with the K&N filter, fits really nice like my old GM filters i used to get, yes it has the oil on it, but what symptoms would i get because of this oil stuff on it?
if i get any of em, then i will change it... mines been on for 2 years now, its as clean as a whistle, infact it looks brand new!

The oil can kill the MAF sensor.

sorry mate, whats the MAF sensor and what does it do?
how do you know if its going, symptoms?

tells ecu how much air is going it engine. the oil contaminates it. kills it.
