Title: New Year new problems
Post by: Tim7 on 05 January 2010, 11:05:51
Hi all in oof land, got a problem and after some oppinions.
I'm pretty sure the thermostat is stuck open as the temp gauge hardly moves, even after a 100+ mile trip the other day ( A and B roads and motorway driving) it only moved about the thickness of the needel, allso the tick over has become eractic hunting between 1000 and 2000. I was thinking the two could be conected as after the motor way run and a bit of heat built up the tick over was ok but buy the time i got home ( back to slow town driving) it had started to hunt again, and yesterday sat on the drive getting anoyed with it I revved it up to the red line and back and it was ok, makes me think that no hot water is getting to the throttle housing and messing up the tick over.
This could all be wrong and I have two separate problems, but may be their connected. Anyone any thoughts on this.
Thanks Tim. :) :)

Had one quote this morning £20 from a local shop, will try a motor factors later should be able to get it a bit cheaper. Still wondering if changing the stat will sort out the tick over problem.

The price is from a local car parts shop, who get their parts from a motor factors I think, so may just cut out the middle man, price was for stat and gaskets dont think it included new housing. Will change it as it needs doing and if it sorts out the bad tick over then all well and good if not then i will start swapping stuff, done the crank sensor a few months back changed the icv again( on my third one ) the other day so next may be throttel position sensor, if still not fixed then may think about getting tech2 involved.

Don`t need the housing Tim just stat and O-ring. Remove housing, prise O-ring out, twist stat about 90deg (similar to light bulb), re-fit new one. About 20mins. :y
