Title: Q: Oil and water mix? Oilcooler leak?
Post by: Omegab25v6 on 06 January 2010, 18:53:27
I have also question about oil. V6 oil cap is  covered with this looking like a mayonnaise. yes i know, its oil with water.  Cap is covered with this, and also oil tube walls inside are covered with this. I know that little this on cap is normal,if short distances. But is this amount normal? I checked, and coolant is clean and all is there, nothing missing.

V6 oil filler is very prone to condensation, thus forms mayo very easily, as it is somewhat "remote" and is in a much cooler, relatively, position.

As long as the dipstick is clear of water, and the header tank clear of oil, I'd not worry.

Wipe out the excess then give it a 50 mile blast down a motorway at just legal speeds ..... bet its nice and clear then .. :)

BTW .. some oils, castrol being one, are much more prone to cause this than others.  Vx's own semi-synth is about the best and on TC is easliy the cheapest as well .. :)

I second Entwoods post - this is common, and normal.

Do an oil change  for good measure using only VX10/40
