I am sure this has been asked befor but i have not found it on the search, so as i am going to do another coolant change and thought i would ask the question of what is the best anti freeze to use ???
-
GM Red Long Life stuff.
-
5 litres 93165162 £12.30 £10.77 £10.23
Retail, trade, TC :y
-
Doesnt really matter, the pink long life is better than the old style blue.
Most of us use Vauxhalls own at about £10 for 5 litres of concentrate, which is all you need
-
Cheers guys, i am off to Edens of Exeter tomorrow to get myself 5 litres of there finest then, thanks again, [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

Are you sure is as cheap as that , ws looking at others prices for the red stuff all around £20 + for 5 litres.
Would have thought that the gm red would be higher?
Suppose i will find out tomorrow.

The old blue stuff

So the pink stuff is the Propylene Glycol , is that correct?
So what is the Methanol one, is that also blue???
-
Hi,
Just to clear up what seems to be a common misconception.
The GM red longlife anti freeze is an ethylene glycol based anti freeze.
Just read what it says on the label !!
The difference in the blue and red formulations is in the type of corrosion inhibitors and the way in which they work.
Even though some makes say they are compatible, if possible you should always well wash one type out of the system before filling with the other.

I use GM Red in everything - MV6, Rover, Kawasaki. Its a quality antifreeze at a reasonable price.
Still change it every 2yrs on the MV6 and the bike, The Rover, being K series, has a 'continuous loss' type system, so is constantly replaced ;D

The GM Red anti-freeze is €8 a litre here at Irish dealers. Like everything else, it's a rip off compared to the UK.

Blimey, thats not good, i can confirm that the GM anti freeze,93165162 is indeed £12.30 plus the vat .
But my joy was soon short lived!!!
I had to price up a new ECU............!
£882 plus the vat., oh Dear

I had to price up a new ECU............!
£882 plus the vat., oh Dear
Why? Which?
ECU's rarely die ....... though Vx wil tell you do. :-/

I had to get towed back as the engine just died on me while going up a hill,so next day i had a closer look ,all that was happening was when i turnned the key the throttle housing was just clicking, sounded like it could not find its position.
So i called out a chap with his magic box, only to find that it would not read or even talk to the ECU.
He suggested that the throttle housing maybe faulty, so i managed to get another one and fitted it, same thing happened, just clicking.
Car will only start with the throttle disconnected.
Any ideas?
-
doubt thats an ecu fault. needs to go on a code reader, and have an operator who knows what he is doing
-
The tech guy is an ex Vauxhall auto technician, his diagnostic gear would not look at my ecu.So while he was here he fitted a new one just to test the car(coils etc were fine befor we switched on).Car fired up first click, with a workin throttle .So its lookin like i just was a little un lucky then.
I did check with him to see what had caused the fault, but he could only give me ,it was bad luck, they do go once in a while !!!!(vauxhall trainned maybe?)

Hi,
I think you need to start a new thread here, more aligned to ECU problem than which anti freeze.
If it is so sure it's an ECU problem, then I would be contacting someone like BB Reman for a repair quote before I paid out over £1000 for new ECU.

Yeah i did go of track a little,no need to start new thread on the ECU,new one fitted to night and up and running.
