Wife's 2000 F/L Elite has started to misfire at times - all pretty random.
Seems like a plug or lead is breaking down.
It had a new GM dispack around 20K miles ago, so I'm assuming that should be still OK.
EML light has been on for months - Tech 2 highlighted low voltage on intake manifold (found the solenoid for the dual ram buggered, hence no real go, but must have been like that since she bought the car 5 years ago, as it's always been like it!) and once, showed (only for a couple of seconds) ECU fault - which we couldn't get to show again.
Nothing about plugs, but leaving the electronics aside, the problem really feels like a knackered plug, although they were replaced around 10K miles ago.
So whaddaya'll think - plug, lead (or both) or goosed ECU?
As an aside, we've been to look at another Omega today - an X reg 2.5 CD saloon in Z385 Graphite II Mica, which is a very weird colour, but she likes it! - with 71K on it for £1595 from a dealer. excellent paint, but no proof of cambelt etc, so that would want doing and the dealer isn't willing to include it in the price - fair play to be honest though.
Long way down the food chain from an Elite, but still a great bang for the bucks, also, if she does buy that, we have the Elite for bits for her new 'un and my MV6.

seems a bit extreme to buy another car for the sake of a set of plugs, or more likely, leads? oil in plug wells ? are the leads firmly attached at the dis end?
-
Yeah, bit extreme just for that, admittedly, but the car does have other issues.
It can be a idiot to start sometimes, and our lass has got to the point of wondering if the car will get there - wherever "there" is!
Shouldn't have oil in plug wells, as I did the rocker gaskets and cleaned out the breathers in the summertime.
If it's summat simple, then she can take her time looking for a replacement, but if pressed, she'll be buying another as soon as.
Gonna kick the Carlton outta the garage tomorrow and give it a good check over.
;)

oil could very easily have buggered the plug caps since the summer.
-
Paperclip it and see if you have any new/extra faults showing ... :)
-
for the cost, i'd stick new plugs in and see what happens

FINALLY managed to get it in the garage today.
So far, replaced the solenoid for the multi ram,
Removed the plenum and found a tear in the smaller right hand rubber pipe on the end of it,
Oil in wells - and water in 3 and 5 (water dripping from that spongy stuff above the rear of the engine).
Leads seem pretty crap too.
Looking at new plug leads, plugs, clean out breathers if they need it (all this again since the summer), might even go for new covers from a Vectra as these ones could well be warped, fit the lot sell the bloody thing................

Covers don`t warp

Covers overtightened .. not warped
Gaskets failed .... Not genuine VX
Breathers blocked ... not cleaned
:(

NOT overtightened - 8Nm as per Vx recommendation
Gaskets failed .... Not genuine VX
Might have - but genuine VX and fitted last summer
Breathers blocked ... not cleaned
:(
Meticulously cleaned!

I've always thought that, but now I'm beginning to think otherwise!

Sod it - put it all back together after cleaning, it runs well at high tickover (cold) but had the slightly "lumpy" when warm. Oil and water in plug wells issues aside (I'm sure the gaskets have gone again), I think the headgasket on 1,3 & 5 has gone.
Smell ahd smoke from exhaust manifold - smells like burning anti-freeze, and a fair bit of smoke from oil filler when cap removed.
Oh well, another one bites the dust! :-/
Missis is looking at a Honda HRV, as she's so attached to the Elite that another Omega simply wouldn't be the same - even another Elite - as finding one with all the toys isn't easy and really good ones seem to hold their price.
Had a Honda (1.8 Civic Aerodeck VTECH mentalist) before and it never, ever went wrong.........well, apart from Rover interior bits breaking.
