Title: wiper motor torque setting

my wipers park position is varying, i guess the nut holding the wiper mechanism to spindle is loose, probably due to over a foot of snow on the screen a couple orf weeks ago, and me turning the ignition off with wipers vertical. Next time you start the car the wipers want to park no matter what you do, and i think the motor spindle has slipped allowing the mechanism to move round. If i have this down corrctly i guess i'll need the torque setting for the nut on the motor spindle for when i reposition them. Anyone?

You don't need a torque wrench for everything Chris. Use a 13 mm spanner which is usually about 6" long and apply a sensible amount of force .....    :y  :y

haynes doesn't give a torque setting it says ..

thats exactly what i did last time when i replaced the link rods, the ones with the plastic or nylon rose joints. Maybe i was a bit too sensible, for once... ;D

I've used nylock nuts in the past.  :y

thanks Andy, I seem to remember playing with the park position by poking the spanner under the scuttle to save the faf removing it. Probably didnt get quite enough leverage on it as a result. Hopefully the splines and arm havent worn as it moved round.

Have a look at the Spindle itself, its taper, or more likely the tapered recess in the wiper arm itself could have worn to the point where it will not allow the two to mate properly. Don't forget that the wiper arms are only soft allow and the spindle is steel. Try a new or different arm first.

A dab of loctite on the bolts is a worthwhile addition
