Whilst having a look for a air leak which we thought was causing my car to have a lack of power, i couldnt find any broken air pipes etc so thought i would clean the breathers out etc and then found that the left side of the engine ( whilst looking at it)
has oil in the plug wells.
Would this cause the car to have a complete lack of power and to run like a pig.
Next question is how hard is it to fix this problem, and should i do both sides?

yes it would cause the car to run crap mate, and the cause is the rocker cover gasket,or on mine it was the rocker cover gasket and the rubber seal on the dispack.Changing it is pretty straight forward really, just look in the maintainence guide at the how to,and i wouldent fix what isent broke mate. :y

Don't forget that the genuine VX cancover joint kit fits like a glove and don't leak if installed correctly. The aftermarket ones (clones) are pretty much crap fitting and tend to leak again.

Get the part numbers from the how to or the dealer might try to tell you you have to buy new covers as well ::)
