Title: ECU Exchange
Post by: spudmariner on 22 January 2010, 23:23:43
I have an Omega 2.5Cd that after an idiot mate borrowing it for a few months has packed up. His garage has said the ECU has had it. If I get a secondhand one, what else do I need to do on fitting it please?

you will need the chip thats in the key or if you can live with it, get the key and ignition barrell and then you should be ok  :y

do a paper clip test first and post the results on here  :y

Very rare for the ECU to fail, and very common for garages to condemn them because they don't understand them.

What are the symptoms?

The symptoms are no feed to fuel pump and apparently not to other systems but as I haven't seen the car I dont really know. I'll get down there and do paperclip test when I get a chance. Thanks all.

OK. Fuel pump is only fed if the ECU detects cranking and the crank sensor is a common failure. Code 19 stored is a clue to this one. Also make sure the immobiliser light is not flashing. A couple of things to check for starters - as it were. ;)
