Title: Immobiliser problems
Post by: steve holt on 27 January 2010, 21:47:34
I have a 3.0 Elite which is S reg and manuf. 1999  A couple of days ago,  i took out the key only to discover the key was actually still in the ignition and the button fob was in my hand.  I turned the key back and forth a few times to get the key out and then put the key and fob back together again.  Now when i TRY to start the car it turns over but will not start.  I have done the paper clip thing and the codes i get are
12..........19...........144............145
Please help............walking is over rated

Have you dropped the immobilise chip out of the key ? it is small black bit about 8mm long by about 4mm by 2mm. it is easily lost when the key comes apart.

Have a very close look in the footwell for it  :y

OK a nice easy one for a change! 19 = crank sensor, get a genuine Vx one as the copies are shockingly shite! Just check the little transponder is still in the key as well ;)

Check inside the key .. in the "horseshoe" bit you should have a little rectangular insert near one edge.

This is the transponder that "talks" to the reciever in the car .. without it the immobilisor thinks you are stealing the car !!

It is possible that when the key came apart that piece dropped out.. :(

I had to superglue one back in on the old omega

Just had a thought, when you're trying to start it does the orange EML flash?

i did see a small piece of plastic on the floor when i took the fuse pannel off and thought it had broken off the pannel.  OOOOPPPs. I`m not sure if i flicked it out of the footwell and into the street or not (will check in the morning).  What is that piece and do you know much.

OK .. to tidy up .. if you try and start the car NOW .. does the EML flash continually and rapidly ???

If it does you need that little bit of plastic as it contains electronics that talk to your immobilisor.

Those are the 144, 145 codes.

The code 19 is  a further problem that needs sorting but that will not fix the immobilisor..

Place it into the small recess in the horseshoe part of the key. When it is in the right place the car should start OK ... at least the light won't flash anyway !!!... once you've established the postion.. glue it there with a dab of superglue.

Once you've done that run the car and do the paperclip test again.

If you still get a code 19 you need to change the crank-sensor .. it WILL fail completely soon .. and the car will then not start at all.
