Title: Blocked breather pipes
Post by: Phil.d on 28 January 2010, 15:14:20
What effect do blocked pipes have. Wil there be a buid up of anything at all. Only asking because now theres some gunge in the oil filler neck and I'm worried because the h/gaskets were done last year. Theres no gunge in expansion tank which narrows it down I suppose. I also think one of  the new rocker gaskets has gone as well. Another thing as well , aircon comp relay , Wheres that situated ?

If your water leval hasnt changed. Have you been splasing in big pudles in the car as on my pug when the air gets sucked in it drew half the pudle in with it to leave a cream chees like muck in the oil return pipe at top of rocker cover, I just jetted it out with comprest air and she never gave me a problem after.
(I quote I am not a qualifed mechanic but more than qualifed potcher-in other words it might solve problem in short run but might move it allong somwhere els in the engine)

Probably with the white stuff we have had. water levels are ok and just had a service a few weeks back. When the weather improves I'll look at the haynes manual about the breather pipes and clean em out. Another topic is fuel injectors , can they get really noisey as I thought some of the lifters might be on the way out. The tapping is more noisey over the plenum area than over the rocker covers.

the white gunge you have is usually normal if you only do short runs

From the mouths of babes, or so the saying goes.

The one becomes the other. Which then becomes oil in plugwells, ruined leads and shot dispack.

Best advice you can be given is to just follow the instructions in the Maintenance Guide section and clean the breather system out. Under an hour even for an unskilled person to do and minimal tools needed.
Did mine and the difference was remarkable. Gave better mpg too.
