Title: Tractor Clutch...
Post by: Psychoca on 30 January 2010, 22:24:23: The clutch has started slipping on my tractor over the last couple of days and I was wondering how difficult they are to change...

I should be able to get the car up on ramps and I am guessing it is a case of dropping the prop-shaft and gear box, in order to get to it. Are there any "special" tools that I will need doing it???

I know it isn't the recommended thing to do, but, money is extremely tight at the moment, so is there are breaker who can sort me out with a reasonable one to carry me through until I can get a new one for it?

I don't think they're ridiculous money new... It's quite a bit of work to put an unknown 2nd hand one in ;) ;)

Post by: Jamieo on 31 January 2010, 07:28:13: It is not that hard if you are good with spanners, I have had mine out twice. First time to replace the clutch cylinder, second time was to replace the clutch.

You will need some way of raising the whole car front and back to give you clearence under the car, I reversed mine onto my ramps and jacked the front up and put it on axle stands.

You will need a clutch centering tool, you can make your own with some wood dowelling and tape if money is tight (did this once many years ago). You will also need a pressure bleeder to get the air out of the clutch. Other than that a mate to help you lift the gearbox out then back in would be a huge advantage.

I wouldn't use a second hand clutch myself, I got one for my 2.0 petrol off ebay for £125 delivered.

I replaced my clutch on my own with no help within 2.5 hours.

Post by: Elite Pete on 31 January 2010, 09:13:07: I found it easier to remove the inlet manifold, then you can get at the starter motor bolts and as already said, I really wouldn't use a secondhand clutch.

but it highlights £75 for a clutch kit for a bmw, shouldnt be any more for yours.

I have answered the question will it fit or not, it won't BMW Clutch is 10 Splines the Mig is 14 Splines.
