Shouldn't really be a suprise cause I asked her but she could have said no. ;D
It was my other half's (Amy) birthday last wednesday and I splashed out. Took her down to London for a few days and stayed at the Hilton in Kensington. Saw lots of the sights and had a couple of good nights out and proposed to her while we were down there.
I go to London all the time but only the industrial and run down areas never get to see the good parts so it was a good break for us too.
One sore point though - How much do London taxi's cost?!?
I spent £100 on taxi's in 3 days! Never missed the Omega and my heated seats so much, congestion charge even seems reasonable at those prices.
Saw Gordon Brown's convoy go over Westminster Bridge. The man who wants us to be eco friendly and blah blah has 2 police motorbikes stopping traffic, a 5 series BMW, a 7 seat Mercedes Vito, a BMW X5 and his Jag XJ in the middle!! F**king hypocrit! >:(
I did OOF proud though as I gave him the middle finger treatment as he went by......childish but appropriate.
Start saving for a wedding now, don't really want a traditional church wedding, bit boring. Leaning towards a venue in Ireland where we can do the whole lot in one place, so if anybody has any leads the would be gatefully received. Aiming for 2010, thought we may aswell be realistic.
Oh and I'm having problems remembering to call her my fiancee instead of my girlfriend, gets me in abit of hot water......sounds like a marriage already ;D ;D ;D

If you don't mind I'll share a little story with you.
It was August 21st 1993. It was a Saturday morning about 10.00 and I was lying in bed. My girlfriend had gone downstairs to make me a cup of coffee and I was just lying there thinking how nice it was to be here in the warmth of the morning sun and having a nice cup of coffee being brought up to me.
Suddenly, a dreadful thought entered my head. Was it the 20th or the 21st??? Her birthday is the 21st but what day is it today?? A quick look on CeeFax confirmed my worst nightmare. I had forgotten her birthday and hadn't bought her a present. What could I do??
I heard the footsteps coming up the stairs and I started to sweat. Panic set in as she walked into the room with the coffee and said 'Good Morning'.
Quick as a flash I said, 'You think I've forgotten your birthday don't you?'
'I don't know' she said 'Why, have you?'
'Of course not, I just didn't want to get you something you wouldn't like' I said. Then the master stroke. 'How would you like an engagement ring?'
And the rest, as they say, is history.
The moral of the story? Forgetting your girlfriend's birthday really can cost you for the rest of your life, beware. ;D ;D ;D

You're not wrong there! We quickly realised that if you mention the "M" word when booking anything there's an immediate 100% markup applied because they figure you'll be to starry eyed to care about being sh@fted. ::)

The restaurant threw in our wedding cake for free, I was stunned! :o

Despite having ours in a tent on my parents lawn I still dread to think what it cost. In fact, there are 2 things in my life that I've never dared to count the cost of: Building a kit car and getting married. I have all the receipts in both cases, it's just that if I added them up and saw the final figure I'd probably die of shock.
Thing is I reckon the kit car total would be significantly below the wedding total, so, if we hadn't... :-X

Tell me about it but, the honeymoon was 3400 quid.....
Cheap by modern standards in reality.

I reckon I can save up about £6000 for it which isn't too shabby I don't think. We just want something nice but simple but more upmarket than a registery office. A nice country house that will do the whole lot or something :)
-
Keep it up guys, you lot are making me feel like a right spring chicken with all this talk of weddings n stuff ;D
It's probably a good idea I don't intend ever getting married, with my rate of expenditure on cars, bikes and (mainly) partying, I'll be about 106 before I've saved enough for a wedding with the figures being posted around here ::)
Congrats matey... get out there and be a little wild before the leash tightens ;)

That should do nicely. We spent far less than that and it was a lot nicer than a registry office.

I think mine came to about £4.59...but I haven't had a honeymoon yet...I've been married for 4-and-a-bit years. :-[
