Regarding box, you need a good AR35 to replace your AR25. Serek (member) had two before Christmas.

Chips are definitely worth it mate. I got mine done just before xmas off of the gent people know on here, and I love it. Although I am getting ideas of seeing if he can find me a more high powered version  :-[ ;D

Mainly because if the improvement was that good with that chip what would be the next stage?!

Cases where the box getting more than 20 miles up the road after chipping, hugely outnumbered to those that have been stripped.

You will need to upgrade that box before you chip  :y

I have a manual box so a little bit different, but it just made the car pull, it was very sluggish before and just was not what I expected. From now though that it has been chipped it is perfect, just pulls right through all the gears.

Tbh you would be just as well getting the chip as a mapping session would cost you upwards of £150 and the chip is alot less. There is no point in a mapping session when you aren't upgrading anything ;)

I'm going to take the chip out, and replace with original to satisfy myself of the mpg figures.
But pre chip I remember it doing around 32mpg, that's local running around. Now it's just bearly gets to 30 locally. I've had it doing pre chipping around 44mpg on a motorway run. Now it bearly gives me around 36mpg.........and towing well it's got the grunt but mpg drops to around 25mpg on average. And the fuel computer is all over the place, giving wildly inaccurate figures.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see the chipped and un-chipped figures.
Even Sethsmate gets better than that and his local runs are almost vertical up 'n' downs. :D

Mind you, as Sethsmate says, only accurate way of measuring fuel consumption is to fill the tank to the brim, run it for say 50 miles and then see what it takes to fill it to the brim again.

My (now for sale) tractor constantly returned 33mpg around here after chipping. When towing the caravan to the Newent meet, it managed a disappointing 23mpg - about the same as our previous 2.0 auto!

Markseth has an un-chipped job (like my latest tractor), and his returns 33mpg locally too.

The chip that's supplied to us OOFers basically returns this engine to 'pure BMW' spec of 143BHP, (from the Vx spec of 128BHP), plus 5% - so we're looking at a tad over 150 horses.

Although I'm not convinced that there's any improvement in fuel consumption after chipping, the car certainly had superior driveability. Boost also came in lower down the revs, although with some black smoke on initial acceleration. I also experienced some 'studder' at around 1500rpm, though this seemed to cure itself.

My present '99 mini-facelift, (and Markseth's too), performs well enough, and there are no plans to chip either of them. Every '99 (or newer) that I've driven runs far better than the previously-built models, though I've yet to fathom this one out!

Blank out that friggin' computer Mick!
There's only one accurate way to calculate the consumption. As Turk says: Brim the tank, use the car for a hundred or two miles, then re-brim and calculate.

Oh, and talking about consumption whilst on motorway runs - I don't think that I achieved a significant difference to local running - maybe a mile or two extra from each gallon.
That said, a loaded estate is grossing close to two tons all-up, so these figures when put into context are pretty realistic, I reckon.
Just my opinion anyway!

I take no notice of it anyway, only on miles covered date/time temp etc, all the rest to do with MPG, range, consumption is all gobbledegook.
Yep the only way to check maually by brimming the tank. But that won't happen I never fill it up ;D cause of the price, and I don't use it that much anyway, well not everyday. ;D

I'll take a photo of mine and indicate the 3 numbers you need. May not be until Sunday though. Working tomorrow, and then it's "The" Game at 5 o'clock.
