Title: Exhast system
Post by: john lomas on 06 February 2010, 09:53:55
Hi
I have a 53 plate omega 2.2L petrol saloon 70,000miles which I have had from new.

The Exhaust from the catalystic converter back needs replacing.

I am told that maybe the flexible braided coupling from the c/c may be damaged in remove back section which will mean a new c/c . Am i being taken on or is this normal.

Can anyone help please

I think they'd have to be ham-fisted to damage it, but then many exhaust outfits are. ::)

You can get replacement flexi sections to weld or clamp in so it doesn't have to mean a new cat.

Welcome to the forum. :y

This can happen to the flexible braided part. I've removed my own exhausts in the past & i've had to replace the flexi part.
They're not very strong, but they're a good idea. They tend to get brittle with age & so yours will more than likely be brittle.

Get under the car with the fitter & get him to show you what he's replacing :y

You rang M'Lord?

The exhaust flexi is post cat, and pre exhaust flange, can be bought cheap:

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m15b408s1411p5644&tbv=EXHAUST_FLEXI_SECTIONS_/_UNLINED_-_Unlined_Flexi_Section_51_X_101.6mm_Performance_Exhaust_Systems_&_Exhaust_ProductsMiscellaneous_Exhaust_Parts

If its damaged and blowing, the down pipe needs to be removed, the old one needs to be cut out and welded in. This was done expertly by MDTM on my 2.2, however father tunnies flexi is on its last legs now, this time i am going to have a go at doing it myself and post pictures  :y

as for the rest of the exhaust try Eternal, its about £120 cat back, fits fairly well, never as good as OEM, but for the price, can't really complain.
