So, a couple of years back, a very kind member of OOF fitted a pair of pattern wishbones to replace what I believe were the factory originals on my g/f's car.
During a recent WIM visit Tony observed that the bushes were getting "marginal" on these, and might cause an MOT failure (due next month).
Now the kind member who fitted the 'bones gave me back the old ones ( :y) and I'm now considering re-bushing these as back-up if the MOT man does condemn the pattern parts.
So I thought, "I'll get some genuine bushes from Vx, and pop back to my old workplace that has a nice big press, nice cheap fix..."
But Vx tell me they want silly money for gen. bushes, namely:
"The front bushes are 90576775, £32.72 each
The rear bushes are 9156605, £16.74 each."
So damn nearly a ton for two pairs of bushes!
Can this be worth doing, on a car that probably has under two years of life left in it? :-/
Cheaper sources of genuine bushes (AndyC?)...
Nearly as good pattern bushes...? (recommendations please)
Don't do anything proactive and see what the MOT throws up...?

Four choices
More cheap WBs
New decent WBs
Poly bushes - can be DIYed - from Powerflex (I think)
BMW bushes - need a press - WIM took 5 hours and will not do it again (chatting to Tony about WB bushes)

Meyle Bushes from www.allgermanparts.co.uk
Think I paid about £12 each + P&P, the only problem is that they order monthly from Germany so do take a while to arrive.
They can also supply genuine (Lemforder) and Meyle complete wishbones.

there are also meyle heavy duty bushes as many of us have, pressed by marks dtm at newent year before last iirc, you will need drifts of the correct sort to press the new ones in without damage and a minimum 10 ton press, Marks press didnt survive the weekend afaik.
It is highly advisable to have your wishbones succesfully pre pressed with new bushes, as you are doing, before dismantling and fitting to the car.

If you're only expecting to see a couple of years out of the car, just fit some new wishbones... Lemforder ar recommended at around £100 the paair but I must confess I fitted cheap ebay ones 18 months ago and they still seem OK... Planning to get under the car tomorrow and do a full service/Pre MOT check as it's booked in for next Friday

Well gentlemen, thank you very much for all these suggestions. I have however managed to get the genuine ones at a smashing 33% discount ("You don't ask, you don't get"). I think my fav. parts man was keen for them not to be on his shelf... :y

how can you tell if they are Lemforder reason is there was 2 brand new ones in the boot when i bought this car Label said TP QSA???

Cheap 'wishbones £55 delivied off ebay'' seem to last 2 years (ie 2 MOT's) and 40,000 miles, very difficult to check what you are buying, Lemforder are good, but what identifies them in the open market !!

The one i have came from GM, and has Topran marked on it.
When i looked into the name its part of the Lemforder group.

I remember it well - my first OOF weekend and my car goes and breaks the equipment :-[
Actually it didn't stand a chance when the 3T trolley jack was supplemented by the combined weight of OOF standing on it ;D
Hope Mark got it fixed.
