Not sure if this will help explain the problem to you. But reading this i think the answer would be yes

I know it says P0420 on this but it is P0430 on the Omega

P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

Wouldn't have thought would put car into limp mode - may be wrong though.

No wouldent put it limp mode, but you more than likely need your sensors relocating further to the middle of the car like wellung did with mine, its the precat failing sending the light on.As said to others, look in the maintainence section at the how to,common problem on the 2.6/3.2. :y

The car will drive quite normally with this code present. It just lights the emissions indicator.

no worries, i pulled the bulb until i get chance to move the sensors. Just out of interest, how much am i looking at for a new precat?

Precat is part of main cat (as in same section of exhaust).

Only ones on TC are the plod ones (probably heavier duty), TC price around £600 per side :o :o :o

Don't bother changing anything to start with !!!  Just reset the light and use the same fuel for a while !!!  A code resetter is NOT expensive when compared to new cats !!

I've had this light on 4 times in 2 years ... each time it has been recently after changing fuel supplier  ie .. go to France .. light comes on ... reset it .. come back from France .. light comes on.. reset it ... doesn't come on again ....

I'm convinced that the change of fuel causes a change in reading of the sensor .. and it is this change that it flags as an error.

I know others don't agree ... but it is a common problem on the 3.2  .. :(
