Title: LSD identification
Post by: joshwyatt on 05 February 2010, 16:24:16
The 2001 'Y' 3.2 V6 auto red ex police has this sticker on the diff, it reads;
GF 085 0 A 32
8 S 10:39 26 10
I saw Tunnie today, and from driving the vehicle he thought it may be possible it had a LSD, does the sticker confirm this?
Many thanks.

i am sure it has one, last time i felt the back end do that was on a Senator. Pulling away in a straight line fine, but put a fair bit of lock on and boot it, felt the back end juddering slightly. Which went as soon as it was pointed straight, try that Axel oil that MDTM gave me, should make it less noticeable  :y

That is something I'll have to take your word on then. I've never had the pleasure of playing in a car with a LSD  :y

First time i drove an ex-police 3.2 as well, the pickup was damn good. More so than other 3.0's i have driven, posted before saying some ex-polices have different ratio diff, this one did pull off the line well.

5 Series Beemer tried to have a go, left it standing.

The info you need to identify the diff is in the grim fairytale Haynes manual,Im at work atm so dont have access to mine. Dont go putting oil of any kind in the diff until you establish which type it is. ;)

Can be a bit difficult to tell sometimes LSD with an Auto, best test is to find a country lane or simular, TC off, park one wheel on muddy or dirt kerb and give it full pedal, the other wheel parked on the road will start spinning and smoking if its got LSD followed with some back end swaying whilst your pulling away, assuming you kept the revs up.

All good fun, wet leaves on the road seem to work well also.  :y

After taking a bit of time with a search on here, I think it does indeed have one. The 'S' in the code means it does, and add that to Tunnie's suspicions that it had one would seem to confirm it does.

Yep, or pull out of a T junction with far too much power and no TC on, and see if you end up driving up the road with your arms crossed, and trying to see round the tax disk. ;D

most plod cars have LSD and they also dissconect the T.C. which is put back when the leave service. the plate on the diff tells weather it has LSD look in haynes book as tells you in there.

Most might be a bit optimistic, but certain a fair proportion :y

If it's fitted with an LSD you should be able to leave a decent number 11 on dry tarmac when pulling away, erm, "enthusiastically", from a standing start.
No LSD will leave a number 1........mind you, you'll get this if the LSD is not working!

You can also check by removing a driveshaft and looking into the diff casing - if you see an 'X' then you got LSD. :y

On good authority, not all ex-plod Omegas were fitted with LSD either. Mine isn't!

Jack the car up and see if both wheels go round in the same direction when you turn one wheel. If so it's a slipper! The Monza GSE's had them, great fun :y
