Tyres on my 96 2.0 GLS Estate are 205/65R 15V - though Haynes manual recommends 195/65R 15H.
I cannot ever see myself driving at 140mph so the V raating is a bit excessive, and those tyres are damned expensive!
Would it be ok to change all the 4 for 195/65R 15H safely?

No tow bar :)

you can go back then but you will lose corner control a bit, i have large tyers on back and make for better cornering as sticks to road and have no trubble going up hills that have ice on. and with caravan on back dont get the pull on the back that happens some times in the wind. :y

^ a good enough reason to stick to the 205's then - many thanks! ;)

I did! The speed rating applies to the car, not the trailer/caravan.

were dose it say speed rating??? its road control.

I'm using 195/65/15 for winter tyres ( and original wheels).. and well pleased with them..(although summer tyres are different)
if you are not racing they are enough..
-
If you don't fit tyres with the specified speed rating you leave yourself open to your insurers washing their hands of you if you have an expensive incident.
Speed ratings are not just about top speed, they affect the strength of the tyre in other ways. Not worth taking the risk of invalidating your insurance, IMHO.
