I know this is a newbie question forgive me but that's what i am so here goes lol..... do omegas have a timing chain or a belt?
-
Belt driven. :y The petrol ones anyway!
-
Is there any way to tell if it needs replaced i just bought the car and was told that the cam belt was changed 10,000 miles ago but i've no proof of that, so is this the same thing as a timing belt?
-
Yes, this is the timing belt that drives the cams...hence cam belt and timing belt are the same.
Key thing to change is the idlers and tensioner....not the belt as it is these that fail
-
Ok thanks is that a big job? is it a handyman job or garage? and how much roughly would you think? don't worry i won't hold you to it lol.
-
On a 2.5...sub 1.5 hours....
-
Yes, the cam belt is the timing belt. If you have no physical proof of it being changed (is there a paper sticker on the front timing cover with the details of change on it?) then it comes down to how much bottle you have as to whether to leave it on trust or change it unfortunately :( Don't forget, it is also good policy to change the water pump at the same time as the belt. Replacement interval is 4 years or 40,000 miles whichever is sooner. Have a look through the 'Maintenance Guide' section (there are 10 pages or more so best look in the index first for 2.2 cambelt change (same as 2.0ltr) HTH :y

DOH! must type faster LOL, and I forgot to mention the roller guide kit! :-[

Recognize that mig from Egay - bargain at that price, if in doubt change the cam belt kit :y
-
Really embarrassed now, it's a 2.5 not a 2000! I must be in the 'change' ;)
-
Thanks guys just found the DVD you can buy on the subject so will probably have a go soon.

You MUST get the locking tools as well, folks who say you don't need em, are talking rubbish.
You also need a certain large offset spanner.
So DVD, Locking Kit, Timing spanner, belt, tensioners, water pump, antifreeze....... patience and coins for the swear box ...
Think thats about it .. :)
-
Will i need many coins ;Dlol
-
Depends where you are, you could get a loaner
-
Better still get the pink one to change it for you ;)
PM DARTH LOO KNEE for a quote , but be sure to have some ear defenders for when he fires up the vocals and tries to be frank sinatra. ::)
