Post by: Road Hog Mad on 10 February 2010, 12:21:05
... Intermittant. Driving normally the speedo stops working and the abs and tc light comes on. Obviously the the wheels lock up and the wheels spin when this light is on. S reg omega 3.0 v6. Elite. We have a spare 2.5 cdx for parts. Any ideas guys?

?

You can try cleaner the sensors up and checking for dodgy bulb connections but that sounds like classic ABS ECU failure. Common problem on Omegas of that age.

Not the easiest of jobs to do as the access is pretty poor. However a good selection of tools and patience does the job.

When it is off you can either send it off to someone like BBA Reman for recon (approx £130 or thereabouts) or use a known working S/H off a similar car.

Mine started out being just intermittent too! You'll have to bite the bullet in the end. You're right that it's a bit of a bugger to get at but, with patience and a decent assortment of Torx bit drivers and extensions, it is not too bad. It took me about 3 hours to get mine off but I reckon an hour or so will have it back on. There's a "How To" guide here plus many other threads on the same topic!

Can be replaced in under an hour by gently bending the whole thing up slightly so you can get to the 6 bolts and swap it over easily :y
