:) Hi guys i want to remove my irmsher steering wheel and gear knob from my elite saloon to my new elite estate has anyone any idea how to get gear knob off ? Also do i need to disconnect the battery or anything to remove airbag and steering wheel ? :-/ :-/ :y :y
-
ALWAYS disconnect the battery when moving/replacing airbags then AFTER replacing airbag re-connect battery otherwise you will need a Tech 2 to reset your dahboard light. Also allow time for the airbag to de-activate before moving it(an hour is good).Hope that helps.

AN hour is good but 5-10 minutes is plenty. Lift the leather gaitor on the gearstick there should be a grub screw to loosen to get the knob off ;)

:-/ :-[ :-/thanks guys i have taken the leather gater off but i cant see any grub screw ???? Any idea where it is located ?
-
Don`t think there is one. Gear knob IIRC is a pressure fit. Seem to recall someone a while back destroying the gearknob in an attempt to remove it :o
-
:'( :'( :-/ :( :(does this meen i cant keep the irmscher gearknob or lever ???
-
Is it possible/feasible to change the whole lever over, rathe than just the nob ?
-
:question :question i do hope so
-
To remove the original nob you have to hack saw the plastic nob off but the irmscher is held on by a collarthat is held in place on the shaft by a small grub screw.
The irmscher is easy to remove by unscrewing the wood bit and then remove the collar.
Then you have the problem of what to put on there. Original is not an option. ::)

This is the kind of thing you're after. clicky (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Laser-2370-Steering-Wheel-Puller-GM_W0QQitemZ290393551599QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Hand_Tools_Equipment?hash=item439ccdf2ef) you might be lucky & remove it with your knees in the time honoured fashion. But I've struggled in the past with removing Vauxhall/Opel wheels.

Soft faced mallet behind steering wheel. Few taps, works every time for me

Yes he's coming to fit a new Aux belt & set of breathers then he's off to yours. He's not here yet so you got a few hours to play with.
