Right fellas fitted new stat and flushed the heater matrix dropped the water out of the rad and flushed that out too. They have been backed flushed....Refilled with water and run the car the heaters started to get so that was great took it round the block heaters o.k and then went cold...Got back they went warm and thencold again seemed to get hot as i rev'ed it abit but i'm lost have tryed to see if there is an air lock by unsrewing the bottle cap...The fan's are kicking in at the right temp and the car temp is sitting around 90 .. 95 ish....I'm getting fed up now had no car for 2 weeks having to wait for part and now this rather thing....... >:( >:( >:(

What engine is it? also the condition of the HBV like?

What engine is it? also ......
A proper one IIRC ::) ::) ::) ::) :y

Assuming its a facelift V6 then?

Fans on the older chrome lovers pre-facelift come on at 96/97 ish

When you flushed the heater matrix, did you flush it both ways? It sounds like a restricted flow of water through the matrix to me, especially since you say the heat improves with reving the engine (water pump turns faster = greater flow pressure of water through the matrix) HTH :y

Its a 3.0L v6 but a 1995 year and the temp is defo at 90 and the fan came on at 92.5....I replaced the heater bypass about a year ago....and i'm sure the temp as always sat around this amrk but then again not sure i ever gave it that much notice so could be wrong.....

You mean there's no water in the cooling system or you've simply not added antifreeze? :-?
Not adding antifreeze should make no difference to the way the engine runs - not adding any water will!!!
-
Get it up to temp and pull the vacuum hose off the HBV, see if it gets hot then.
-
'95 3.0 fans should come on at 96, not 92 should they not? :-/

Will do lee i'l give anything a go at this stage. Sorry to sound dumb but if it gets hot without the vac hose on does that mean that the h.b.v is up the duff mate. :-/ :-/

Not sure tunnie mate but don't ever remember the temp going that high when all was o.k.

Well i tryed the vac pipe on the h.b.v and it stayed the same...Had a quick chat with a freind of mine whos a mechanic and he thinks its an air lock in the heater matrix ????
-
If taking off the vac pipe from the HBV makes no difference, that's good news, 'cos it shouldn't if the vac system is working right.
Your observation that it is warmer on fan setting 2 than fan setting 4 shouldn't come as a surprise - the faster the air flows through the matrix, the less time it has to warm up in contact with the hot pipes.
How persistent were you with the matrix flushing? How much flow from the hosepipe? How many minutes of flushing? You've really got to give it some serious squirting, or you'll just end up clearing little bits of crud from the pipes that were already mostly OK, and not touching the ones that have more build-up.
Edit: Oh, and get some antifreeze in there quick if you leave the car outside, or you'll have much bigger problems on your hands.

I know what you mean about the 2 and 4 setting its just not getting that hot at all and the h.b.v seems fine. When i flushed the heater mateix a left it flowing for about 5mins both way is that about right ???? I still have not put the antifreeze in but will have to get some in soon. :-[ :-[ :-[

Sounds like the system is air-locked to me. :(
-
Well i think i have sorted it out now thank god..It looks like it was an air lock in the heater matrix..Had to manually fill it and also noticed that the fans now kick in at 95-96 so tunnie you were right mate. :y :y

......
so tunnie you were right mate. :y :y
You didn't need to tell him that!!!! ::) ::) ::) :y
