I am about to take off the throttle body for a gas flowed one, but I am unsure how to remove the throttle cable from its ball socket, the cruise appears to be a E-clip. I am sure its easy but I dont want to damage any thing.
-
thottle cable, small spring clip, just rotate spring clip, then withdraw. Then unclip the cable from the ball.
Cruise is simple E clip
-
I have looked for that but can not see it, I wonder if anyone would have a pic of it..
-
You'll see a wire clip around the back of the ball/socket. Unlip it from the cable, rotate it 180o & it then slides out along the length of the cable - away from the ball/socket ........ not easy to explain. ::) Even when you have removed the clip, sometimes the socket can put up a fight in actually popping off the ball.

Thanks for pic..Just as I suspected the clip is missing.Does that mean the metal back bit on ball socket slides along the cable?
-
Doh! I'll delete my photo's then! ;) ;D ;D

You're not kidding! I've tried and tried on ours and always failed. (And yes, I had removed the clip ;D)You don't want to break it, after all.
Is there a tool that could make this job easier, anyone?

If the clip is missing should just be able to prise the "ball" off. Might be a bit tight but it will release.
-
Its obvious that some mechanic at some point did not put the clip back and there is me looking for it....lol

If you ever get your off, or look at A N Other, there's a wire clip that lives inside the socket. If it's never seen any lubrication in its life, then it rusts to the inside & won't flex as you try to get it off the ball. A little blob of grease works wonders for future removal. :y :y

Probably ended up in the engine bay at some time, they can be fiddly to put back. :y

bloody crap design those things, another vote for DBW and its plug and play method :D

They've been around a while. They're used as belts braces for a lot of gas struts ball & socket ends (our bonnets use another method ::))

Its just so fiddly, and when it does go it usually goes pinging of at about 1,000 mph

yep! :y Which is why lou is missing his!! ;D

Sorry I have been away for a while... now that I have established the clip is missing is it just a case of brut force to get the bloody thing off...but what with? Any suggestions?

Yes! :-? A flat bladed screw driver against the black pastic cruise 'bit' .....
Try soaking it in a bit of Easit/Plusgas :y
-
Thanks..will have a go
-
watch you dont break the plastic cruise connector like what I did!
Unable to replace same 'cause I still cant get the bloody throttle connector of. :-/
Wondering if a bit of gentle heat will expand it enough to come of?

I did think about that posiblity as I posted my answer. :(

Basically there is no easy way then..all a little bit touch and go so to speak...why dont they make things easy, life is already hard enough without having to worry trying to undo a throttle cable.

Give it a squirt of Plusgas before you go to bed! ;) ;) :y :y

its been a good couple of years since i sold my 2.5 so my memory is hazy, but dont you have to pull wire clip out fully to get the ball off? ie unclip, spin it round, then remove by pushing the clip away from you to the back of the car. if the clip is still in the ball it still wont come off as the clip shaft locks it in...no? or have i read this too quick again?

Yes! ;D
the clip around the back of the ball was missing in the first place. But the socket still doesn't want to come off the ball. I suggested a bit of easit/Plusgas because I've had it where the wire clip INSIDE the socket is siezed & won't let go of the ball. :y :y :y
I suppose a bit of copper slip could help once it's been removed! ::) ::) ::)
-
oh yes but others have mentioned it still wont come off??? and wonder if the circular part of the clip has broken off leaving the straight bit in the hole in the ball...? maybe? just a thought.
Also wondering, did vx do a copper slip coloured Omega?...special order for Mr Bee of Bury. ;D ;D ;D :P

Ford did the MkIII Cortina in Roman Bronze (both light & dark) ..... that was similar! ;D ;D ;D

I would try poking a pin or paperclip through the hole that the retaining clip lives in to see if it is still there.
If it is still there it will probably be banana shaped after your attempts to remove the cable.
-
I always understood that there was a
spring seized clip inside the ball - separate to the pin that is removed/missing.
Then again ,both times I have tried to remove a throttle cable I failed. I now leave the TB on the car when I'm removing the plenum.
