Post by: Goldy on 15 February 2010, 08:18:43
I have just bought a 2.5 diesel,on the EGR valve are 2 pipes one goes to the boost sensor set up on the nearside inner wing but there is a very long one that is just flopping about in the engine bay can anybody tell me where it goes.

It flops about in engine bay.

Its purely there to stop the oil that builds up in EGR from dripping on the top coolant hose (which would soften it, and then fail).

Welcome to the world of ludicrous designs by BMW ;)

ah well that explains the horrible mess on my top coolant hose and adjoining areas. I don't have anything 'flopping about' in my engine bay. I hope my question isn't seen as hijacking this thread but does all this oil  affect the EGR valve itself, and will it benefit from fom being cleaned internally?

Thanks Martin
