Title: Miss fire 3.0 MV6
Post by: Sir Popple on 06 February 2010, 14:52:41
Hi, I have a miss fire on my MV6 I have just changed the plugs to try and resolve it, but this has not resovled the problem. Could it be something else simple or should i restrip and do a compression test? Also Oil and water show no signs of water or oil ingress.

Thanks Steve

Leads or Diss Pack?

DIS pack? Sometimes water collects in the sponge under the scuttle directly above the DIS pack and then drips onto it. Could be this? :-/

EDIT: Must type faster! ;D

Dispack or lead/leads breaking down. Can you `clip it for codes, get an idea what cylinder is missing

I had a dispack that 'split-open' due to water drippage, giving a sudden onset, severe misfire....as you probably know after changing the sparkplugs, the dispack is a pig to get at: behind the engine; above the bellhousing.

As the chaps have mentioned; a code diagnosis via counting the flashing of the EML (aka 'the paperclip test') would at least set you on the right track. ;)

2.0, 2.5 & 3.0`s can be clipped. 2.6 & 3.2 pedal trick. Some very early 2.2`s take the pedal trick others code reader only

If the problem is on the HT side, pedal or paperclip is academic as HT faults will not show.

To condemn my dispack when I had a misfire I pulled plug leads off one at a time with the engine running. 4 of them made the misfire worse and you could hear the spark jumping around the plug well. No's 5 and 2 made no difference and there was no spark noise. Therefore dispack had failed on the 5&2 coil.

A new Dispack sorted it, and while I was changing it I noticed the wadding under the scuttle was sodden, so I have now sealed around the wipers to stop it happening again.

Watch this space.

Ok we move on, I have finally got and replaced the HT leads, and i still have no spark on No.1 i have checked all other cylinders and they are all working. Are the Coils in pairs and if one is down should there be another? Or is there anything else that could be causing this? I am being cautious because i have to ship these parts from the UK.

Thanks

the coil pack is 3 coils in one unit
1 and 4
3 and 6
2 and 5

if only No 1 is not fireing then i would look at the plugs and leads again  :y
