Hello, I have had my omega for several years and until recently noticed the car pulling to the right slightly on the m/way. I inspected the tyre and noticed that it was slightly flatter than the rest turned the lock full right hand down and the tyre is badly scuffed on the inner side showing some of the banding closest to the McPherson strut. I had the geometry checked at a specialist using the hawk eye laser align system and it was found that there was no adjustment needed, I saw this and trust him as he is my mechanic and I smell b/s a mile away ;), so Would a worn wishbone cause this sort of wear but still show nothing on Geo? I am confused... Spending on a new set of 4 tyres is an expense that I didn't want compounded by a faulty suspension. Many thanks for all your advice and help people :y

seems a load of omegas I have come across including speaking to traffic cops who use to drive omegas, the shoulder wear seems a problem for most.

Tony at WIM sets the cars up to a different spec to the manufacturers suggested and this has cured it for a lot of owners HTH

Tony at where? I'm sorry mate I dont know what wim is . :-?

Thanks everyone, so the general synopsis is that its a Geo set up issue?

It could be a worn suspension part but that should have been picked up when your man checked the geometry ::) ::)
Tony Bones knows his onions and will set the car up within tolerances a thousand times smaller than the Vx recommendations. :y :y

if geometry is ok logic says both tires must have similiar wear (single wishbone change scenario seems odd)
do something simple and check the front tires clearance to the bumper and rear of wing..

The camber on the front wheels of the Omega is adjustable but it seems that few people are aware of it.
I owned my last Omega for 7 years and was always puzzled by why the front wheels appeared to lean inwards at the top and why it chewed the inside edges of the front tyres.
Wear in the wishbone bushes can allow too much camber or the camber can be upset if the struts are dismantled to fit new wisbones.
I think I read somewhere that the optimum camber is -1.10 degrees (but I might be wrong).
-
1.10 is considered correct, yes. I asked Tony to set base setting to 1.00 for mine as it spends most of its life on the motorway, not noticed an increase in understeer, but then i only get to play on a.couple of corners on the way home.
Trouble is most set up companys go to factory spec. which has enormously wide tolerances. Usual advice is check the car for wishbone bush failure, broken springs, steering idler play, or any other steering or suspension problems, rectify, might be a case for letting the suspension settle if shocks and springs are fitted, then visit wim for set up, then fit new tyres once your happy.
Give Tony a ring, he's a good lad for a chat.

I have this kind of wear on my front tyres but put it down to tracking adjustment, Chesham isn't that far from me i could contact WIM for geometry adjustment when i get my new tyres on. :)

I will recommend waiting for some period after you have new tires ..as they will be out of balance very quickly.. (I discovered that the soap they used around the tire when fittting causes the tire to change position :-/)

they do say to take it easy on new tyres for at least 100 miles.

I would suggest camber as the culprit. My camber is out and munches away nicely on the inside edge. Out by about 1 degree and affects about 1" of the tyre.
-
My camber at the front is -2'05 for the right and the left is -2'08 it is in the limit showing as green but sugestion is that it needs to be 1.0 if am right. :-?
-
Unfortunately, that is the difference between someone who uses "Manufacturer Specifications" and someone who really knows his stuff ;) ;)

1 degree and 10 minutes.
minutes being fractions of a degree.
i set mine to 1degree out of choice, but they wont get it exact, they allow for the road crown sloaping to the gutter so wont be the same both sides, wim usually get it within 0.05ish of a minute ime, too small an amount to worry about.
