Hello again dear OOF members :)
It's been a while since I had a chance to read around here, but I've finally had the time to do some hobbies and the engine swap from a X25XE to Y26SE.
The transplant went really well and it was an easy modification to fit everything. The Y26SE I got was in excellent condition, but I have one rather disturbing issue.
The cambelt was changed less than 2000km ago (less than 1250 miles) and it is documented. At first start I had a squeaking sound coming from behind the cambelt cover (confirmed by removing the acc belt). I removed the upper screws of the cover to inspect rotation of all tensioners while a friend manually turned the engine, but everything moves just fine and there's no cambelt wear and tear to be seen. I fired up the engine and let it idle for some time (less than ten minutes) and the sound faded away. Engine running very very smooth :)
The next day and the engine was cold, I heard the sound again, but not that loud - also faded away after a while.
Any idea what this could be? When turning by hand it sounds like bending a brand new cambelt (the somewhat "crunchy" sound). The squeaking reminds me of rubber against rubber, but not likely a bearing with poor lubrication.
I don't know if the tensioners was changed with the cambelt, but most likely yes since it was done at a dealer (service tag confirming change).
I really should change everything anyway, but I'm hesitant to do that myself as I need all the tools and parts (plus the high possibility of failure). Getting the parts in Norway is really tricky and expensive, and the expertise to change it is a really really rare find.

first thought was possible aux belt or tensioner baring squeeking but not so sure by the end of your post. Could try briefly running wuth aux belt removed to eliminate it?
...if definately cam belt related and the cam belt cover assembly is not rubbing on the belt then i guess that only leaves a baring in the rollers or tensioner?

Could it be the belt cover touching the cam belt?
Loosen the cover bolts and see if you can relocate it to avoid the noise. If that doesn't work, I'd have the belt cover back off to get a good look what's going on.

I have tried without the aux belt and the sound was still there. I could not see any rubber/plastic dust or other things that could make me believe the belt was touching the cover so I think it is a bearing. It's from the top of the assembly (at least it sounds like that) so it should be visible if anything was making contact.
Oh well, I better dismantle everything so I can take off the cover (without breaking it). Everything seems to be a bit too tight here ::)
Next weekend I hope to get the brakes fixed so I can take it to our kind of "MOT". Maybe it will see the snowy roads of Norway soon :D Driving a Volvo with FWD at this time is pretty...boring 8-)

I have exactly the same problem. I fitted a vx cambelt kit 2 years ago and have the same squeal on cold starts.
It is not the aux belt as I dropped that and started it up and still got the noise.
I also stripped the cambelt cover off and had a really good look around after a few thousand miles. There was nothing amis.
The only thing I can put this down to is that vx have changed their belt supplier and they are plain noisey.
It seems to be damp and weather related as well. Worse in cold damp conditions.
If I get time I'll strip the cover off again, looking for failing tensioner etc but I'd be surprised if it were that as it would not be temp related

I had the same problem and after exhausting all possiblities It turned out to be as simple as the timing belt tensioner needing replacement. I also noted that the timing belt had slipped a little back towards the timing case rear cover and the belt had rubbed into that.
Replaced the tensioner and put a new timing belt on also. Making sure the belt was centred on the tensioner and water pump cog as well.
Result: No more squealing. :y

Guess I have to drive it like that for a little while before I change it. It can't be that bad though..or? I have a X25XE with cambelt/tensioner failure in fresh mind hehe.
You probably can't answer this, but is there any supplier you could recommend regarding belt (kit) and tools? Ebay is one thing, but you can't find many who can/want to ship to Norway.

locking kit is a must on the v6, gates, sfk, contitech all do perfectly good cam belt kits cheeper than dealer.
pm Andyc on here, he mail orders from his dealership. Might do Norway if it helps, but as said dealers arent competitive on cam belt kits over here :-/
