Hey, i'm thinking of taking my Omega on a 370 mile trip. I'm going from Gloucestershire to Blackpool so it's pretty much motorway and dual-carriageway all the way.
However, although my Omega is only a 2.0, it still seems pretty thirsty on the fuel.
Does anyone know what MPG I should be expecting, or how many miles to a tank these cars do ?
Its a 1998 Omega if that makes a difference to the petrol tank size.
I haven't had it long, so it'd be nice to take it on a decent trip, but i'm now thinking that it may be cheaper to rent a small efficient diesel car.
Any thoughts ???
Kris.

long run like that should see 30-35mpg. Over the course of a tank i average 32 in mine, with 90% motorway runs with the cruise set at 80/85

Any ideas how many miles they do with a full tank ?

In decent weather i saw 430 to a tank, all depends on how heavy your right foot is and traffic conditions
-
About 300, possibly more if you like driving with the petrol warning light on.......
-
Considering the size of the car and tank, they aren't that great cruisers, are they.

All a matter of opinion, i've yet to find a car that cruises the motorway better for similar money
-
Should get there and back on a full tank ok :y
That's around £70+ then, depending on what you pay at the pump.
Factor in you still need to put fuel in an hire car then the rental cost, not worth renting unless your doing mega miles in it :y then how comfortable will you be compared to your miggy. ::)

That's not to bad then :exclamation I thought it would cost alot more.
Thankyou for your help
Kris! 8-)

ive just been to leeds and going i averaged 33 and coming back in the roadworks zone at 50mph cruise control on i reset the consumption and it stayed at 49/52 mpg and one point 59 but as soon as i got off motorway back to 19

They are a car that eat up motorway miles pretty easy. I have drove to southern spain from manchester with no problems, pitty I didn't have cruise control then. Got flashed a few times in France, mind you I was doing 100mph. That trip returned 30MPG dead on, but it has since had new sparks so it might be better now.

It costs £79 to fill up from empty-ish and its only gonna do about 350 miles.

My 3.0 has done 459.2 miles to a full tank (If it had managed 459.4 I'd have made it to the garage) Thats travelling to work and back on M/Ways (bit of town driving) but getting stuck (always) in queues on the way back.
It's utter crap around town though.
-
I used to get 500 miles plus on my 2.0 on a long motorway run. In fact the V6's are not far short if you are very careful with the loud pedal.
Auto makes a lot of (adverse) difference around town, but not on motorway.
-
So, if I take it steady-ish and sit at around 70-80mph on motorways and dual carriageways, then it could happily do around 400 miles to a tank ?

Hi Mate
Gloucestershire here also :y
My 2.0 Auto did 500 miles to a tank.
I once had 600 miles to a tank from a 2.5 V6.
Not many believe me, maybe the gauges were wrong, but that's what the dials said!!
-
I just hope it does 400. I honestly thought a 2.0 would happily cruise motorways and with a 70 litre fuel tank, I also thought it'd do 450-500 miles each time.
Nice car, but its a pain in the arse at times.

Just been from Lincs down to Surrey and back...pretty much all motorway and averaged 38mpg in my 3.0 v6...so thats about 530 mileson a tank...but thats exceedingly good and would normally expect 30-34mpg on a similar trip but thats still 420 miles on a tank :y
Obviously the 3.0 v6 is not as fuel efficient on short trips lol

I feel a bit better now. Shame petrol costs so much.
Gloucestershire's at £1.13 at the pumps. whats it like everywhere else ?
-
I get 27 around town, but it drops on the motorway! That doesn't seem right!
Have no error codes, and everything is serviced, breathers clean etc.
Any ideas? Wondering about the MAF sensor as when those are goosed, MPG suffers.
Cheers,
James

17 around town, :o 30 on 'a' roads speed about 60. That's the best I've got so far, and that's driving like a grandad.
(Oh, I am a grandad........) :(
-
'Bout £1.09 ish :(
-
The 2.0 ar'nt much cop really, No power and no economy. I'ts also the one that Parkers Guide recommends you don't touch ! Oops! too late now! :o
-
Drove my 2.6 auto from Cardiff to Tyneside & back the other weekend - 332.8 miles each way, started from full at each journey, just over 1/4 left in the tank at each end (about 130 miles on the MID) - not hanging about either :y
-
Petrol £1.09 Diesel £1.10
They have just reduced the diesel by 1p today at Asda :y
So at least it's cheaper up here ;D
Mick ;)

I've only owned the car 2 weeks and I think it might be time to sell it.
My Honda would do 38MPG and that was a 2.0.
When I bought it I thought it would be a good car. I think I need a diesel Omega !
