Just started today - she misses across full rev range, on both idle and acceleration from cold. Temperature appears to be runnng cooler and average fuel consumption has dropped from 27 to 13 mpg.
Could it be slipped timing? DIS pack or knock sensor?
Will fault code check tomorrow. If it is the DIS pack how do you test - plug a timing light in series and look for flash - or pull a plug and earth it and look for spark.
Any suggestions appreciated. Normally would suspect DIS pack but it also misses on idle.

A misfire is a misfire ... be it at idle or high power ...
DIS/HT/plug failure = no spark .. regardless of RPM .. :(
I'm assuming no EML and no codes ???

Post the code results... I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't any (other than perhaps the misfire ones) which means it's HT related so DIS Pack/Plugs/Leads. ::)
Also check to see if the plug wells are filled with oil :y :y

I am in the process of going through the same check out my posts earlier this week for the help i got. On the older 3.0 V6 I was told that you will not get any fault codes for the Dis pack or HT leads if they are faulty. Good luck.......

Thanks for the responses - I've conducted the paperclip test - and got no fault codes (apart from the expected 12).
Is it possible to determine the required dis pack from the engine number - (its a 1997 3.0 litre, if thats helpful) or do you have to take it off to identify it I believe two different variants were used.

coil pack problems seem to be common pal.
