just un bolt the lights. and were the wires come out of the igniter boxes underneath cut them as long as poss into the loom to give you a long bit of wire to connect into you old wires on the non xenon car. you wont need the self level as the car wasnt fitted with them so will still pass mot.

There are 2 level sensors, one on the front nearside wishbone & the other is on the rear near side radius arm.  :y

Is there a separate ecu as well? or is it combined with one of the sensors?

I assume so .....  :-/ I can't see that the sensor would talk directly to the headlight level motors.

igniter boxes underneath the headlight. you dont need leverllers as you are retro fitting the lights. as the car didnt leave the factory with them(xenons) you dont need the leverllrs, would recomend headligt washers. it is possable to fit adjusters to xenons.

i know a few pepole will say you need leverling you dont. as long as when the vechile is presented for test they pass the beam aim part thats fine. the reason is the car didnt leave the factory with xenons.

How do you adjust the level then, the xenon lights rely on the senors on the wishbones to adjust the lights, the sensors are an MOT requirement to ensure the ultra bright xenon lights dont blind people, if the MOT technician spot the uprgrade and looks deeper into the 'Minor' modification could fail your MOT.

Might be worth speaking to an MOT trained person before doing the upgrade to see where you stand, would be intrested in the outcome !

Just my opinion

if the car was fitted with xenons then yes the self  leveling system has to work.
if the xenons are retro fitted to a car that did not have them fitted then self leveling not needed. its in c.u. regulations

Not quite true ..  :(

Its a longish article so I'll only quote a bit of it ...

Therefore a HID headlamp unit sold in the after market should:

1. be type approved to ECE Regulation 98 as a component.

2. when fitted to the vehicle should enable ECE Regulation 48 to be complied with (although no government inspection will take place).

3. Comply with RVLR as far as "use" is concerned.

In practice this means:

1. The headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be "e-marked" to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory.

2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam.

3. The headlamp must be maintained in good working order, kept clean, and aligned/adjusted correctly like any other headlamp.

Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to supply, fit or use vehicle parts which are not legal.
