Title: ATS Bad and Good
Post by: Chopsdad on 21 December 2007, 21:06:11
I got stung £12 today for a puncture repair at ATS  >:(

It got worse though.......as I stopped at the traffic lights down the road I realised I hadn't bothered to look at the wheel.  :-/

Imagine my face when I saw they'd hammered bloody external weights to my lovely alloys  >:(

Swift U turn and brought the thing straight back, stopped on the handbrake and raged into the office......

"Excuse me, I didn't bring the car in with rim weights and I'm sure as hell not going out with them stuck on my wheel"

"Sorry Sir, came the reply, I'll sort it for you now".

And with that, the guy on reception put on his hat and coat and rebalanced the wheel - no fuss, no row, just there you go sir..............

So the £12 doesn't seem so bad now.

Thanks ATS - I think  ;)

£12.99 at kwik fit, and if you dont watch them, you'll get rim weights.

Daft question possibly, but what are the alternative methods?

The stick-on type that are hidden in the centre of the wheel.

Stick on weights on the unseen inside of the wheel.

But to do that they have to clean a patch and that means extra work.

I got a discount - £11.76 - don't know why.

It was next to a branch I was visiting this morning, so I just left it and called back 2 hours later.  I ususally only pay £7 and they always fit the proper weights - and rebalance it for free after 100 miles on a new tyre if needed.

ATS, Kwik fit, dont know about your area but down here they are a bunch of cowboys, couple of year ago one from ATS nearly had a wheel brace inserted into him, he took off one of my tyres and decided to throw one of my £300.00 each brushed alloy wheel onto the floor, his excuse was he thought it was a steel wheel.... that makes it ok then i says whilst approaching him with steam coming out of my ears.

I came away with all the wheels balanced free of charge

I refuse to use these chains as the muppets they employ have no sense whatsoever ....

My next door neighbour (a very large single woman who knows nothing about motors) had a puncture in a wheel only fitted by Kwik Fit a month previously and the AA breakdown could NOT undo the nuts they were that tight... she was eventually recovered by a "spectacle" lift and on my advice the car was taken to Kwik Fit site and I went to collect her.

I had a lengthy and meaningful discussion with the manager as we watched TWO "mechanics" (??) swing on the end of a 6 foot scaffold pole in order to undo the wheel nuts. After pointing out a few things and talking about local papers/TV/ trading standards he agreed to pay for complete replacement of all 4 wheel hubs etc.. and then got really upset when she .. with a little help from me.... insisted that the work would be done by the VW garage and not by themselves !!

Only sad thing was I never saw the actual bill, it was sent direct to them by the VW people.. :(

I've always wondered exactly what Torque they were done up to....
