Probably answering my own question but I have very very slight traces of Mayo on the filler cap around the screw thread. Or a line an inch long and 1mm wide. Header tankbis nice and pink water and zero on the dipstick.
I'm thinking it's just a bit of condesation with it being cold and filler neck proud of engine rather than being on the cam covers etc
Am I right?

As you anticipate, you have answered your own question. The filler cap sits higher, away from the relative heat of the cam cover, and in airflow thus condensing the minute water particles in the oil into mayo. It is not helped with shortish journeys either.
If water header tank and dip stick is sound (as it appears to be) then wipe the cap clean and if its approaching oil and filter change, give it one (ooo err missus!).

solution is to remove the filler neck snd screw the cap direct into the rocker cover aka vectra
